Alt Bike Culture - Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show: Zoobomb and Dropout pictures

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I went to the Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show today and had a fun time. There were all sorts of lovely, dream bikes and it was interesting to meet the builders. What I especially appreciated was that a place was made for the Zoobomb, the Dropout Bicycle Club, and their bikes. It was great to see how many people were asking questions and showing interest in Alt bikes, and I saw some of the builders come up to them and express how glad they were to see them there. Very cool. :)

So here are some pictures. I'm not a very good photographer and it also didn't help that the place was packed with people. I know there will be far better pictures on BikePortland (http://bikeportland.org/index.php) in the next day or so, but in the meantime I hope you enjoy these.

Here is Capn ˇFUN!'s fixed gear tallbike. He notes riding it is pretty dicey at present because the chain slips when he skids the rear wheel to stop. The clipless pedals really made me laugh.

Rev. Phil's new bike. I was encouraged to show the, um, interesting welds and to assure you all they have convinced him not to use this bike for Zoobomb tonight.

Thank you so much for these photos. I rarely venture out of the road forum, but I think I may have been inspired!

heh, thanks for posting these so quick! You took so many good photos, of our stuff, and the pro builders. That was a crazy inspiring day! This show was insanely fun. I can't believe we had the opportunity to have a booth alongside builders who charge $3000+ for complete bikes. And the fact that they were happy to see us there was awesome. And the CROWDS! Holy cow, this show was incredibly packed the entire day!

Oh, and yes, the tracktall made it's debut...

Thanks for the pics. The gravity bikes were inspirational. Fast Eddie is encouraging me to build one, but I hadn't made much progress because I'm rather tall and need a longer bike than Eddie was using. It's a slow project.

Nice to see the Zoobombers and Dropout Club get some renown. The custom bike builders seem to be in the forefront of embracing the edginess...more power to them.

Im just curious for you gravity racers have you ever tried to build kneepads/rests to put most of your weight on instead of the saddle? i'm thinking of building one this way and just curious if anyone else has had experience.
