Southern California - Baldy Lite (11/24) -Not to be confused with Baldy Challenge

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

How long does it usually take ya'llz to get from encanto park to the bottom of the lifts? Or at least to Baldy Village?
Well, I don't know about "ya'llz" and his/her speed......but it's going to take me awhile. A long while.
How's that? :p

Well, hmmm... normally, it would take me about 2 to get up it but right now I have zero desire to climb (all the more reason to do it). So, I'd say at least 3 hours up it and about an hour and a half down it. Oh, and a couple of hours at the lodge posing with Roadfix. :D

I just checked the weather for Saturday. For those who have never done this you need to understand the weather changes. LAYER UP because that ride down is cold!
Glendora-Saturday = Sunny & High 69
Mount Baldy-Saturday = Sunny & High 53

I did borrow his red Fulcrum Zeros once and rode around a parking lot.
It's conceivable I've put more miles on that wheelset than he has!
Did we ever see him ride at the MB Grand Prix? I know we don't have any photographic evidence of it!

Just to let you know I did the East Fork/GMR loop yesterday and it was probably 20-30 degrees WARMER than it was down in Azusa or Glendora.

3 years ago (and 30 lbs) it took me 2:05 gate to gate. Now about 4 hours!:D...maybe 2:20 if I push hard.
Is that the upper gate to the lower gate??

Gina says "NOPE"!:D.....She's not a happy camper when it comes to climbing. I tried to talk her into it but she says no. I usally quit asking after she hits me!:P
Who could blame her? I think it has something to do with the chain you make her pull you up the hill with.

Hey Herb -- I put in my OP for the Baldy Challenge that the alternative route is now officially the Baldy Lite ride. I notice that your list of participants in this thread is not the same as those I have listed for the alternative route in my (Baldy Challenge) thread. I'll PM the people in my thread and then tell them to sign up for Baldy Lite if they haven't already. Sound ok?

To help those who have never done a ride with such changes in weather tell us what clothes you used and how you layered. For example: You put on your see-through riding shorts and stuffed a couple of arm warmers in the front and then what? Where did you put the banana? Whose skull cap are you using

I just ride naked in a trench coat and unbutton as necessary. it has plenty of pockets for bananas.
When I rode up there Sunday I thought it would be cold since it was cold at home (Pasadena), but I ended up just riding with a baselayer, jersey, and bibs and carried a vest. I thought I would be cold, but as soon as I rounded the first bend on Hwy 39 and the temperature jumped I realized I got lucky for once.
Usually, I'd just freeze. ;)
I may ride out your way tonight...
