Okay, I'm in. I may want to bring lights and dump them in someone's trunk for the climbing, though.
See you all there!

As for Saturday it would be an out and back :(
Remember Stagecoach did have tasty chili......
 You like driving, don't ya? ;) I didn't have any chili at Stagecoach. I ate a sandwich, cocoa and chips, all while crowding around a space heat-stove to defrost my frozen fingers. You know, thinking about it, I now realize, no way in hell I'm doing that again! :p

Um...so in the ten minutes between posts you had an epiphany of some kind? Just curious since you went from "maybe" to "I'm in" so quickly. And you men think we women change our minds on a whim....:p

Something is wrong with me today. I first read your post above as "just looked at my star charts..." I was sure you were going to follow that with "and they are aligned in my universe so that I may ride on Saturday." But I realize now that you merely mean that you were checking out how early the sun rises to assess your ability to overcome laziness and not seeking celestial guidance.:p
I think I need another cup of coffee.

I'd go with the celestial guidance anyway :p

Trac , VMC and I were there for a bit...had a sandwich...but sitting around the heaters was a bad idea...when I went back out, I started shaking really bad ...had to get on and start riding immediately or I would have been in big trouble...was fine once I got moving...
The year before was 40 miles of strong headwinds...sure the ride back was great..but it was brutal...
Thats why I am going to give the April one a shot instead!

I rode back with Karen and Indolent (first time meeting Indolent). Karen, itty-bitty little thang that she is, was damn near frozen to her bones. She was blue and shivering and her pinkness merely pale. Dan and I stuck with her all the way back (she pushed through it...that woman is tough), and I was so busy worrying about what to do if she were to pass out, that I forgot I was cold. Plus, I had Dan there and we were getting acquainted (i.e. I asked him tons of questions and made him do all the talking). :D

It must have been great conversation cause Dan is signed up again. You wouldn't want to leave him out there to his own devices now would you?;)

Dan, who will never admit this, is actually one of the hardest core among us. I can't think of anyone else who damn near cut his finger off and still rode the bumpy roads of Solvang with it merely wrapped in a bandaid. He also pushed it through the Grand Tour Double without any special training that I know of.
He just acts wussy so that no one will expect him to sign up for RAAM next year, but that cold at Stagecoach last year didn't phase him at all. He wasn't even wearing arm warmers up until he saw me dragging out my camera.
He's a sly one he is...;)

No Way MAN! I'm seriously on the obese side now (I was borderline before). Too many Ben & Jerry delights!:D
I really don't want to do the ride but I NEED TO! :o
I have strategically placed a grain of glass into my tire causing it to flat at about 6 miles. That puts us at the base of GMR and a reason to fall to the back!:D

I know I responded in the original Baldy Challenge thread that I might be able to do this, but I'm definitely out. My forced bathroom remodel is putting a serious crimp in my ability to get out on weekends :( I am going to be SO glad when it's done with....

Dumb question ... is this knee warmer or full leg warmer weather? I'll be hitting the road tomorrow morning, down to SoCal. It was around 45 this morning in San Jose, so just wondering what I should prepare for.
Also, when is the start? 8 am? or earlier? ME will probably want to start at 6 am???

Ron, I'm wearing my capris with arm warmers and a jacket. The mountain is tricky and can be extreme on both ends. Better to layer than risk freezing on the descent.
As for my start time, 6am ain't it. 8am seems more reasonable. ;)
I echo Herb - safe drive down!

BTW, it wasn't too cold on Angeles Crest today. I did wear my vest on the way down, though.

I have to claim ignorance ... what's Capri's? Anyways, I have my arm warmers, jacket, knee warmers ... just debating about leg warmers. I'm really looking forward to this ride (and hopefully being able to ride with you ... ) Ok, ok, I'm sandbagging ... I'll stop.

While everyone's posing at the lodge do repeats to the lifts, that'll add on a few miles.

I am in so much worse condition than I was 6 months ago, it's ridiculous. I'm gonna be struggling just to get to the Lodge, I imagine. But I'm looking forward to the pain.
