Baldy Lite ride

Encanto Park to GMR - Then up to Mt Baldy village via GRR

This ride is unorganized, unsupported, unsagged, you may be dropped. (I know I will be:o)
We never planned to have pie!

Rolling from Encanto Park at 8AM
751 Encanto Pkwy
Duarte,Ca 91010
http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result.php?q1=751+Encanto+Pkwy+duarte%2Cca
This right near the 210 and 605 interchange
Exit at Buena Vista or Mt Olive - Turn right on Huntington - Left on Encanto Parkway the park is on the left about 1/2 mile up
There is a parking lot and you will see lots of riders there! Many different groups start at Encanto...Make sure you are with the correct group!

magicant - riding from home

Mr B and his friend Lee - Bringing coffe and donuts for Justme?
shprung - maybe

What our lawyers make us say:
This ride is in no way affilated, or any way related to the Baldy Challenge ride.
Except for the fact we are riding in the same area and are all BF members or maybe some aren't.
However we are more than happy to have the Challenge riders pass us on GMR.
Just remember...1st one up to Baldy is buying!!;)

OK, . . . I'll sign up Herb.

Edit: Unless NYG organizes something in LV, in which case I'll have to make one of those difficult decisions.

Didn't say it was a definite, just a hard decision.:p

BTW, . . . it is a little on the cool side up there early in the day, especially if the sun is hiding.

Thanks.

No one ever said this was an easy ride....
Some of them are...not me...I have only made it to the village once...on 4 or 5 attempts...

This is past Azuza but before Pasadena if that helps..

Also if its too cold, I may cancel...it IS a ski area after all....

58 miles, 5961 ft. without the trip to the lifts. I take it SFBA is San Francisco Bay Area??

This is going to be the 2nd time you make it Herb.

Right. I will be down in Redlands visiting family for T'giving and would like to get in some riding. That said, I probably don't have the time and ability to ride that far. I am thinking more in the range of 40 miles and hopefully starting farther East.

For it to be icy, we need some rain or snow, haven't had too much of that lately.

Herb, I have confidence in you, I know you will make it.

We will be getting back from Phoenix on Friday, it we don't get back to late I will take you up on the ride.

I am certainly going to try to make it...

Hey Herb

Rob

I think you can do it no problem...GMR is between 5-7% I think...maybe a couple of short steeper ones...GRR is probably 4-5%
Basically its constant, thats what is so hard for me....
As I recall you have a standard double...that will be a bit tougher, but you do Hill hazing on that...nothing that steep...
I think Eddie is going to do this on a standard as well....

As much as I am tempted to do this ride on my triple....I mean double, I think I'll be bringing the S-WORKS for this ride. I've only put 45 miles on the new BB and Pulleys and I'd really like to put them to the test. Anyways, I don't think that my stringbean legs could handle the entire climb in 42:)

Welllllllllllllllllll...we could start at 5am if you want. :D Then you can go to the Plaza thingy (no way in hell I'm going near a mall the day after TG) and I'll go do my thing. We could knock out 50 flat miles in less time than a climbing ride.

If you "hit and run" a mall (usually they open at 5-6am) and can make a clean getaway by 9am, it's fairly pleasant. I target only a handful of specific shops and only for certain items/brands/deals. Stealth shopping!

50 miles? I might be able to do that by Friday. I hope! :o

I wanted to join... Never been to Baldy or around GMR and i have heard so much about it.
But, I'm concern about the terrain.

Herbm, will you have the route mapped on Bikely.com or something like it? ( so i can get an idea or use it as a map in case I get drift behind:o)

so far, I only have been riding around the PV hills in south bay area. I got a whole week off (my one wk vacation :)) during the Turkey holidays and I wanted to do something interesting and healthy.

Wonder if Happytime can chip in to give me some suggestions on this ride.
Thanks.

I dont have it mapped but
here are some things to look at

This is from Encanto Pk Up GMR then down the backside...so its the first 1/2 of the ride
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Encanto-to-GMR-to-East-Fork-to-39

This one is from the base of GMR to the village
http://www.routeslip.com/routes/8329

These should give you an idea of what the ride is..

It may be help full; It including the elevation and some photos too:

June 16, 2007: From Encanto Park (http://shprung.com/sfvbc/?ride=BF01) - with the ski lift.
From Pioneer Park (http://shprung.com/sfvbc/?ride=LAWM-T5)

I did borrow his red Fulcrum Zeros once and rode around a parking lot.

It's conceivable I've put more miles on that wheelset than he has!
