Classic & Vintage - Help!~What year/model is this Peugeot ?

HELLO ALL! .. This is my first post after months of lurking/learning from the site.
I just picked this bike up over the weekend and was thinking about buying new break levers , doing a few small repairs (tape), and maybe making it SSpeed.

Is this bike worth the time.? Are these old fashion stem shifters any good if i decide to stay geared?
What year is this? I am thinking 80's...??



Any help would be greatly appreciated

'83 P8 or PH10.

Please take some pictures from the other side. so we can see the crankset and derailleurs.

Ghost....what are the serial numbers? Theres should be two. the first will be a paper sticker located on/under the bottom bracket or next to it on the chainsaty and the second will be stamped number on/under the BB or on the rear dropout.

I'm thinking '82 PH10. I dont have any info available at work so I'll look into it when I get home.

Here's something to look into as well....date codes. What does yours have?

I have a pug just like the p8, well two actually, but my shifters are on the bottom bar I'm not sure what model it is, but if any one can tell me i would appreciate it. One of the bikes has 'pure gold' on the bottom tube.

The black one in post #1 is a 1982 PH10 checker decals in '82 stripes in '83

The blue one in post #5 is a 1983 PH10 blue in '84 black or white in '84

The gold one in post #5.........

Where are the post #5 bikes located? The blue one may have the U.K. light bracket boss on the fork.....

Hi miamijim. The bikes are from the UK and are still here. just got them recently. The blue one for £8, seriously! and the gold one for free from my neighbour when he saw me working on the blue one. both are now almost mint condition and i love them! I bought the b17 new though. Marc.

Thats a good question. I'm still working on it but I have a feeling it has to do with a licensing agreement with the Grimaldi group.


It goes something like this.....

BH (Beistegui Hermanos) bikes buys Peugeot to form Cycleurope in the early 90's. Other acquisitions follow (Bianchi). Peugeots deal stipulates that conditions of the agreement could be re-evaluated in 2004.

BH sells Cycleurope to Monark Stiga in 1996/7

Grimaldi group buys Monark Stiga in 1999

2004 Peugeot re-evaluates conditions of the Cycleurope formation and withdraws licensing agreement. Exports under Cycleurope continue through 2005.

Part of this agreement has wording pertaining to 2011. I'm still working on this part. Perhaps it stipulates Peugeot cant compete with Cycleurope in the racing market as Cycleurope owns Gitane and Bianchi.

Based on an E-mail exchange I've been having with Peugeot Cycles in France it appears Peugeot sold everything, licensing, factories and records to BH. The guy at Peugeot has been telling me, "I cant help you with that. We sold everything to Cycleurope. Talk to them." He's either being lazy or telling the truth.

May 1997. Cycleurope purchased Bianchi and all the companies Bianchi owned including Legnano, Puch and Chiorda.

If you think about it, shortly thereafter Peugeot began withdrawing its licensing agreements around the world.

In 1996 Festina won the team title at the Tour de France riding Peugeots. Around that time ( I think) Bianchis came into prominence at the tour.

1997 Pantani won the Giro d' Italia and the Tour de France on a Bianchi. Prior to that Bianchis only success were 4 world championships '92 with
Bugno, '86 with Argentin, '73 with Gimondi and one other.

My first build. The Doctor said "get exercise or I predict Type 2 diabete within a year". I found it cheap..bought/sold an undersized Specialized Sirrus but kept some of it's parts (original and upgraded) and now have an adult version of basically any bike I had as a kid. I love this forum (been reading since I bought the Sirrus 3 months ago) and I apologize for reviving an old, non-relevant, beating a dead horse, 'crappy ole' carbolite' thread BUT...this bike has physically changed my life. Thank you very much. So far, I've ridden just under 500 miles and have lost about 10 pounds. Best of all, I love riding bikes again. I've ridden motorcycles for years and not surprisingly, the one major rule applies to both cycling and motorcycling; everybody in an automobile is trying to kill me.
