Hey everyone,

I want to get back into riding after taking a few years off. The problem is that my bike... let's just say it has seen much better days. It truly needs an overhaul.

It is a GT XCR-3000 iDrive. Full suspension.

I'm really starting to get that itch to get back into riding, and would love to get my bike up and running!

I'm in Woodland Hills (15 minutes North of 101 & 405 interchange).

most shops do tune up for 50-60 bucks. Your GT sounds pretty current so there can't be that many things wrong with it.

Thanks for the input. $50-60, from what I remember, will get you a basic tune-up. I could be completely wrong, though. I know what I need is an overhaul. It's not just out of tune from riding, its been sitting for a loonngg time, and the Fork might need to be worked on.

Could that kind of job cost more than $100+?

Can you recommend any shops around my area? All I remember are Wheel World and SuperGo.

There is a wheel world in Woodland Hills. Supergo got bought by Performance Bike.

I've never owned a suspension MTB before, so I can't really help you. I could probably clean and lube the drivetrain and adjust brakes + derailler, but I can't tune the suspension.

if you fork and rear shock isn't leaking, there is no prob. Lube the chain, get air in there and take it around the block. Jump off the curbs to check the fork and suspension out. Go through all the gears make sure they go in there smoothly. Most likely, you front fork is spring and oil combo. If you see black stains running down the tubes, then you seal is blown and you will need to rebuild the fork or get a new one.

Supergo is now performance, not sure of the other shops in your area but they are a good start, since lil LBS might charge more in tune ups and repairs then others.

Well, it turned out to be a easier job than I thought. Took everything off, cleaned it, put it back on, and it was back to it's old self! Thanks for the input!

Good to hear!!! I have had two GT MTB's (RTS-3 and now the 1999 GT i-Drive 5.0) and have had great success with both.
