Hello all,

I have been a pretty serious backpacker traveler for ages, and a big fan of cycling for even longer, but somehow it never dawned on me to combine the two until now. Better late than never! So in January 2008 I will embark on a 3.5 month cycle touring trip in Chile and Argentina, going to the remote southern parts (Patagonia), including guerrilla (roadside) camping. Every winter will be a different part of the globe, to experience and enjoy this wonderful fluke of existence called planet earth.

Very fortunately for me, I have my own home-based business that shuts down over the winter, and I live car-less and modestly enough to allow me to take winters off to travel.

I just bought a Kona, 2008 Jake the Snake (cyclo-cross). I hope this will allow me to tour on rougher roads as well.

I am really looking forward to learning from all of you out there to make the most of my cycling adventures. Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,

-Frank-

Hello Frank, your trip to Patagonia sounds quite exciting. I've known many people who talk about doing things 'when they retire', only to drop dead of heart attacks six months later. It's always better to get out there and enjoy those moments when you've still got life in you, and the ability to move around.

Come and visit us in the Living Car Free forum when you've got a chance--we always like to hear new voices over there.

Welcome to BF!

Hey Frank

I really just stopped by to ask if you're a Guelph (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guelphs_and_Ghibellines) (gotta put that class on Italian history to use somehow), but then I read that you're going to Chile and Argentina this January. My mom's from Chile, and my family went down there a few years ago--we've got family in Coyhaique, down in the south. And my sister is going to school in Coyhaique for school in January, too.

Anyway, sorry for the long and pointless post. Welcome to BF :)
