Introductions - Greetings from Rockingham, West Aus

Hi all,

just introducing myself, new to this forum. I have jumped the gun a bit, I do not turn the big 50 until 02 March next year so forgive me this small indiscretion.

As far as cycling goes, I very much enjoy cycling aroung Rockingham. It has a great coastline and improvements are being made continuously to the bike network.

As it happens the City of Rockingham are developing the Bike Plan at the moment and it is open for public comment I believe. Contact is the Travelsmart Officer on 9528 0490.

In conjunction with this is the formation of the new RoBUG or Rockingham Bicycle Users Group that is just being formed. Once again, further information at this early stage can be sought through the Travelsmart Officer at the City of Rockingam.

I am also a member of RTC - Rockingham Triathlon Club and our first club event for this year is on at the Alexandra Street carpark starting at 7.30AM sharp this Sunday 18 November.

I also commute to work from Port Kennedy to Rockingham for work a distance of 9km each way so I spend a reasonable amount of time cycling around my local suburbs.

Anyway, I look forward to conversing with you all from time to time and swapping the odd tall story or snippet of advice.

I noticed your photo there of Mt Rainier? Are you up in Seattle WA. I spent a year there in early 80s picking up the then new HMAS Sydney from Todd Shipyard. Had a great time, beautiful part of the world :p. I did my open water divers ticket there in winter :eek: Only cost $60 off season!!

Well as far as tall stories go, I rode my new bike to work and back for the first time today (got it on the weekend, a new Apollo Ventoux) and fair dinkum, I spent most of the time climbing back out of the gutters. The local sea breeze here known as the Fremantle Doctor was that strong and my new bike is so light it more or less acted like a wing and I spent half the time going sideways :eek:

It will take a bit of getting used to compared to my old heavy weight hybrid.

Are you from Kent, England? My wife comes from Gillingham, Kent and came out here as a 5 year old. Small world if so.

thank you for the reply, all the way from Milano in Italy. Wow, just saying the name Milano is exciting, my wife and I are looking forward to visiting Italy in the next few years when we do our retirement round the world trip.

My in-laws visit their hometown of Gillingham Kent every two years and last time visited Lake Garda in Italy and fell in love with it. It certainly looks beautiful.

Nah, I ain't an Aussie. I lived in Sydney for 4 years and Perth for 4.5 years though. Sydney is probably my favourite city, but I think it would suck for riding.

Yeah, moved to the Seattle area from England back in '94 and loved it. Great part of the country.

I have on occasion managed to get almost blown off the bicycle as well. It's interesting.

I live in Kent, Washington state, which is named after Kent, England. It's slightly southeast of Seattle. I am originally from a small town just outside of Manchester (Swinton), hence the 'Lanky Lass'. I do have relatives virtually everywhere, although as Johnny Monkey likes to tease me, I don't yet seem to have any in Australia :p . I know that one of these days I'll find an Australian willing to admit to be related to me :D .
