Hmmm...

1. This ride wasn't his idea initially.....
2. This ride doesn't start or end at his home, or a location he is used to riding out of.
3. This ride contains hills - may be challenging.
4. This ride will have many people on it that he has never met.
5. This ride has riders on it that may very easily put a dent into his racing persona....;)
6. There are enough people on this ride not from the area that if he shows he would just be an average joe/not a celebrity.
7. He is not being paid for an appearance....

I'm thinking the hip-man isn't going to make it to this one. Just call it a hunch....

Alright, alright, before you two scare everyone off, I'd like to say this is a no drop ride and unlike a different "no drop" ride ;), this one will accept a very slow pace. If these two guys want to race ahead, there is no problem, that just means they have wait longer in the parking lot. :)

April 27 is my 45th birthday! Maybe instead of riding I'll just hang in the brewery and cry in my beer! :bday:

Ah, but you're forgetting that you'll be accompanied by an officer from one of the highest offices in Wisconsin, and that's the Bike Fed. If anyone give us any guff, I'll flash my "Deputy Dave" badge ... :D

"Deputy Dave" - aha, I just figured out who you are. Congratulations, I was proud to turn out against the ATVers and vote you onto the Badger Trail board.

I am optimistically penciling this ride onto my calendar, though I don't get many weekend passes. Wife and kids seem to have dibs on me. Hoping, we'll see. I just got the green light for HHH, now I need to lay low for a while.

iab, you had me at "Classic (& Vintage)." You riding vintage?

Looking at that FD, that looks like some seriously old steel - like maybe pre-war? (iab, I know your tastes run that way)

Rode it for at least one leg of the ride - what, was there a support vehicle?

Two looped routes that start/end at the same common parking area. It allows some folks rode both loops, some just one or the other. Psimet2001's fall century does the same thing, but with three loops.

Everyone brings their own food/liquids and just stocks back up at the starting point.

Yep, at least one leg (as CyLowe mentioned, there will be 2, 30-mile loops so you can do one or both). I may do both legs but it depends on my winter "conditioning".:D Reverbobrama (spelling?) road both legs last year on an old Fuji with a 7-speed internal rear hub, it was pretty cool.

The bike pictured is a 1955-1958 Cinelli Model B. It's hard to date it accurately but the FD is original to the bike (and technically, it is index shifting :)). More pictures here,

He brought that along with his modern Cinelli. Swapped to the modern for the second half of the ride. Most of the rides we do are loops that end up back at the cars so that everyone can bring whatever food/drink they want and leave it in the car. Also allows others that find out they are in too deep an opportunity to bail at the end of whatever loop they want to .

Don't know if iab is planning on loops this time or not. Not sure if loops are allowed in the Cheddar Block (area behind the cheese curtain).

Update:

I called the brewery, they have no problem with 10-15 sweaty people taking the tour and having samples ($3.50 for 3, 3 ounce samples and you get a souvenir glass). They are moving and may or may not be moved by the time of the ride. It really doesn't matter though, they are moving less than 1 mile down the road. Across the street from the "old" brewery is a large parking lot, that will be the starting and ending points of the two loops. I will start a new thread in couple of months with more details.

8. I'm "racing" on the 26th, and therefore will be spent
9. I'm insulted by castiron's statement about the radio market. Dude, I am, without doubt, at the very least a medium fish in a medium market

10. The only way I'd even consider doing this is if recursive is in for sure. Again, just being able to ride alongside him at the start before he scampers away at a zesty pace way over my head gives me hope that some of his awesomeness may indeed have rubbed off on me via proximity alone.

The pressure! Not sure if I can handle all this responsibility.

I'll pass the buck: I'm in for sure if there's not a race that day. Including WCA, ABR Parkside, certain wisport races, and uhh... maybe some others. And I might be in anyway!

But April 27 is open on the top secret tenative advance racing schedule I got from the team. So put me down as a probably.

And I'll probably be "racing" the 26th too. HTFU!

Is that the Time Trial? Heck, even I might give that a go just to see how I fare against a wicked fast cat like yourself.

At least then I'll have a current story to gab about during the New Glarus ride and over beers at the finish.

Excuses excuses. Tsk tsk tsk. Do we need to get a little basket for your handlebars so you can bring your little dog Toto, too? ;)

Let me reply on several fronts....

--No. It's a 25-mile road race, one which recursive will rule if he indeed decides to put the hammer down.

--On the subject of beer, and here's the great revalation, I don't really drink it much.

--Funny you should mention Toto. That's exactly the breed of dog our new puppy is...we rescued Gabby from the humane society after they nabbed her from a puppy mill. Now, as long as that basket does not clash with my kit or Klein, count me in. I mean seriously CyLowe, what's it gonna do, slow me down????!!!

CyLowe97

- Where's the race? Maybe I'll show up to pull for a while.

- There's always root beer, iced tea, etc. I know not everyone is a tippler and that's alright.

- Dog or no, you really should consider coming out.

UW Whitewater....Pedal for Proceeds....a Wisport Series event.

Pull for who, recursive?

...'cause I'll be riding with Toto in my basket while sipping root beer from my bottle apparently.

As I mentioned in the BFNIC ride schedule thread...I will be putting the WISport Series on the schedule. I will most likely race on the 26th as well as ride the new glarus ride the next day.

Let's face it the WISport ride, er, race is only 25 miles. I will be off the back so it just becomes a 25 mile ride that I ride a little faster. Who can't recover from that to go sling a slow early season ride the next day??...except Hip that is....;)

The 08 race schedule is still in its formative stages, but that's probably not the race I'll be doing that day. Although I certainly enjoy ruling things from time to time. (Astoundingly, ;) I've never finished a race in the top 3. I will change that this season.)

You should come and rule this one.

I remember you were close though in my backyard...the Whitnall Park crit last spring. You were right there in the front bunch lap after lap looking just comfortable enough tucked in and ready to pounce. If only your chain would have stayed on in the bell lap!

Maybe I will have to give this "race" a try. My wife has been wondering how soon I would try bicycle racing since I am now a semi-retired bike racer. Only 5 races this year. Summit Point(WV), Virgina International Raceway, Road America, Shannonville(Canada) and Barber Motorsports Park(AL).

Hmmm, bicycle race entry fee is about the same as the cost of a sparkplug.

Different kind of suffering.
Alabama, August, 105F, full race gear - suffering.
Road America, April, 30F, 165 mph - suffering.
Suffering makes it fun:)

Chatter don't matter

Meh. Have fun breaking away out of the parking lot there, Hincapie. Don't drink all the beer before the loafers make it back to the brewhouse.

Besides, that will give me some extra time to get on the bike for more than 30 minutes at a time. :o

There....now if I'm OTB in the first 2 miles....then it will be like every other ride.

At this rate though we may in fact have to bring ice picks and crampons with studded tires.

On the brighter side, there is a shortage of road salt. A lot of WI municipalities have run out of it, and those that still have it are using it sparingly. So the roads around New Glarus may be salt-free sooner, which is good news for those of us on steel bikes. But we'll still need some good hard spring rains to wash away the sand.

Winter cycling? For my part, I set myself a goal to commute by bike year-round, 10 times a month on average. My work travel schedule has not cooperated and of course the weather has been worse than most years. I managed 7 commutes in Jaunary and 4 so far in February, in temps down to -10F. The cold doesn't bother me but it's a lot of slipping and sliding, even on studded tires. I have managed to fall outright only 3 times. Recursive once blew past me on his skinny racing tires, while I was struggling to stay upright on my fat knobby studded tires.

And ... we are due for more snow today and tonight.
