Great Lakes - 2nd Annual BFNIC Spring Classic Ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I asked my wife if she was interested in going.
She responded by asking, they make beer there don't they? Are we going on a brewery tour?
I think she is a keeper.

I beseech you Speedy! Cancel your engagements and ride! With the BFNIC!
Once again, recursive, I admire your earnest beseeching for a healthy dose of The Awesome to accompany you and your BFNIC cohorts on this planned Spring Classic.
As stated in my initial post, my people are on the case and keeping things Awesome. If I am meant to honor this ride with my considerable talents, it will be meant to be.
In the meantime, keep your feet on the pedals and keep reaching for a bigger gear to mash.

I'm In! Just finished a 10 mile test ride and the knee feels great. ... wish I could say the same about my legs and lungs ... man am I out of shape.
Just made my reservation. Possibly just me as my daughter has a rehearsal on Sunday. If it's a late rehearsal, they may drive up separately.
Speedy ... I've been in the presence of Recursive's awesomeness and, ... well, it was pretty awesome. ;)

Really, could my birthday get any better???? A possible appearance by Speedy. Dang...I'm just verklempt.
I'm booked as well at the Chalet looking place. Hubby and daughter will be at a horse show so I'm on my own...'course I got Voldemort! I asked daughter if she minded me missing her horse show and she said, "mom, on your bday I know there's nothing you'd rather do more than ride your bike...not sit in a stinking barn." I've raised her well, haven't I? :D

Is this ride really casually oriented? I'm thinking of riding this, but I've never ridden more than ten miles at a time- city riding. I'm hoping to try some longer rides before then - any recommendations?
My wife (who doesn't ride) has been trying to get us up to New Glarus since we met, so I have encouragement at home :)
Thanks,
Erick
Since you'd like to visit the area, why don't you come up to ride? It will be worth just meeting us all :D;) Really, it's a great group. You can always just ride what you're up for and then enjoy New Glarus with your wife:love: (I've always wanted to use that love emoticon; this seemed to be the appropriate time)

The wife is happy to know she's welcome, and she also likes the emoticon.
We're into beer snobbery, and are looking forward to the tour :)

That is great news about the knee. I saw your posts where you were considering surgery at one point so I'm so glad you've been able to rehab it.

The hotel in town is pretty decent, has a nice restaurant for breakfast, and a very small pool.
The Chalet Landhaus is OK but if you want a nice motel cheaper (no pool, restaurant), try the Swiss Aire motel, about 1 block away, both on the paved part of the Sugar River Trail which will take you downtown to other restaurants or go the other way and eat at Culver's which is primo fast food. I work in NG.

hey SmokinMiles... I think the boyfriend and I will be joining you all for this :D. Going to see if the Chalet still has rooms :)
Been away from the boards for a little while. I'm in for this ride. Not sure if I'll make the first loop. I'll be driving up in the morning, and it's quite the haul.

I was just getting ready to put out an APB for you! Will be good to see you. Fresh legs for the 2nd loop; you'll be a happy camper! See you Sunday.

Time to pony up...
I will be in illinois this weekend.
Friday: Golf in McHenry Area
Saturday: Bike auction with the G/F, hopefully to score her a deal (which will score me a deal)
Sunday:....*ehem*...charity event at my moms work
A nice cop-out for me, i'm pretty much not in cycling shape yet.
Who's surprised? I hope no one...

Smokin. The knee is 90% for skiing, pretty much 100% for riding. No surgery for me! I'm thrilled. After drilling it pretty good on Sunday, it fealt fine today ... no problems whatsoever.
Now to heal the rest of me. ;)

Yippee and just healed up right in time for spring! Couldn't be better! Great news!

I wont mind having someone at the rear to converse with.
Well...I've seen Clerks quite a few times. We could talk about that while bringing up the rear...:D

Clerks (I and II) are two of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

Only seen clerks a couple times but if I'm able to still speak, I can hold a conversation about it.

Bringing the whole family (10yr old son, 5 yr old daughter) with me. Fetching a room at the Chalet Landhaus. Looks like a decent staying place.
The wifey and the kids will be going to Madison to check it out while I'm going to suffer having my legs ripped off during the B ride :D But the beer is the motivation to keep the crank turning!

Wore mine on the commute in to work today to see if it was comfortable enough to wear for that long. Shorts leave something to be desired. I could do it, but at what cost to my butt....
Jerseys are too big for me now. (yay!). The zipper and the extra fabric make the front of the jersey have a lot of "tents" sticking out along the zipper.
Please...take this out of context. I beg you.
may or may not be wearing it. If not I will definitely go with something "classic" in the spirit of the ride.
Ih and aham is right...let's post in the "real" thread.
