Hi gang. I picked this up and am very interested as to the year of this bike. The hub has the numbers 68 and after a space, 7. The serial number on the bottom bracket is 4285699. I don't know how to thumbnail pics, but I took a couple shots of it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/20453798@N06/sets/72157603122348506/

From what I've been reading, the two digit stamp on the hub indicates the year (so 68?) but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks so much for any info!

The hub date looks right based on the pictures. All of my Raleighs are newer, so I am not sure what to look for on to confirm the 1968 date. Neat looking chain guard too.

Great! I figured it was probably a 68, but searching around I didn't see the color scheme on this one associated with the ones from that year. Just wanted to be sure, though. Thanks for your help!

I have a '66 Sports and have had a few early 60s models pass through my hands, and the biggest difference with your model is that funky Jetson's shaped chainguard. It's cool! Also, I'd expect to see rubber-block pedals rather than steel cage, so yours are perhaps not original to the bike. Nice bike though.

The color is great! Enjoy the ride! BTW, I have a '69 Sports in the basement and it has the traditional chainguard with the Schwinn type black rubber diamond shape (for better foot traction) impressed pedals.

Thanks for all the info guys! It's a really sweet looking ride. I forgot to mention, I had the shifter changed at the LBS to a sturmey trigger type (the type that came with it was a really inefficient grip shifter, which I still have). Maybe that will help? I think I have a unique one with the Spacely Sprocket chainguard!
