We have a little tradition going on Thanksgiving. We ride up Lower Big T to Angeles Forest , over to Angeles Crest, and down for a guarenteed hunger inducing ride that will help ease the guilt that's sure to come later after dinner.:D Some ride from home so we usually meet at the Jack in Box at Oro Vista and Foothill in Tujunga at 9am. The LakeView Terrace Rec center on Foothill is a good place to start closer to Tujunga. I think it's a little over 3000ft from the Oro Vista. to AC. Another option would be to ride on up to Newcombs and have Turkey up there. I've heard they put on a pretty good spread.

Hmmm...this sounds interesting Bob. George and I are looking to ride on Turkey Day, but it depends on what time and where he does the childcare hand off. I'll keep an eye on this thread. :)

ETA...we have no feasting plans, so if we decide to make a day out of it, I trust you can suggest some good climbing for us.

I didn't mean to suggest that as a meeting point for others, just that I would meet you there if I make it.

Nes, the vertical for lower Big T to Angeles Forest, Angeles Crest, and back to Foothill is 3800 ft and 34 miles.

I think I already have that route mapped out. Just take out the 5 mile round trip from my house.

http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/pasadena/783047336

I might do this, since I can ride from my house and still be back in time to head over to my parents' house for dinner.

Bob, there is construction on the bridge on Foothill, the one with all the holes in it, so it might be best to avoid the Rec Center start.
I may join for this ride, depending on other plans.

Also, Bob - realistically, how long will this ride be? I mean, exactly when do you see us getting back from the ride??

I'll be going, but I plan on doing a "short loop" which will total about 35 miles. So no matter how far the others go, there will be the option to return with me and be back before noon.

This looks like fun. I'm in.

I'll ride over to Oro Vista from Woodland Hills.
If anybody wants to meet up at CSUN about 7:45 or so and ride over from there let me know.

No, I don't think so.
I'm pretty sure the Mt. Wilson ride (Jan 1) is 100 miles even, from my place.
This T-day ride should be about 80.

U gonna make it?

It's cutting it too close for me as I have to be on the West side by 4pm, looking fabulous and carrying a somewhat decent broccoli dish (homemade). Sigh. :( I realized yesterday that logistics would doubtfully work for me. You guys have fun. I'll be doing a solo crawl somewhere.

I'm sorry, Brian. I've been so slammed today, I forgot to respond to your earlier post. :o I would love to come, but I can't risk it. And I'm not going to see family, I'm going to a very good, longtime friend's house, and, no, she will not have it. As it is, I've stood her up so many times because of rides, I'm surprised she hasn't disowned me. There are 30 people coming and no one is EVER late. My friend is so generous. She opens up here Bel Air Home and invites all her friend's. She also provides the turkey(s), ham(s) and libations. We just bring designated side dishes. My broccoli is very important, you see...:p

Hehe, yeah I understand. Sounds like a nice get-together. My wife is just hoping my family plans more advanced than last year (everything came out of a box except the turkey, and a pie we brought). She's just not used to a family that actually likes Stove Top stuffing and Mac & Cheese with hot dogs in it. Come to think of it, I need to add Mac & Cheese w/ hot dogs to the guilty pleasures list.

Anyway, I'll be riding from my house near Lake and Washington at 8:30 to meet the group at 9. This sounds like a blast.

My got to be home time is 1pm. That will give me time to cook and get ready (I have to look really good for this and that's going to take a good hour and a half of primping, puffing and perfuming, and with heavy machinery :p). So, in order not to be stressed out (and given the 1/2 hour drive time to get there)...yeah...1pm. :o

Oh, but to this point - I may be able to join you if 1pm is possible. :)

If we do the CVC ride, it's just Westlake, down to Las Virgenes, over to Mulholland, south to Stunt, climb to the top, then reverse course and head back. It's likely only about 30 miles at best with a 9 am take off time so back early.

Hey ME, if you're looking for a social ride, join me! I'm doing LaGrange's Meals On Wheels Fundraiser (http://www.lagrange.org/forms/MOWtdayinfo_2007.htm)ride. 'Raises money for a good cause, I'll still be back in time to finish T-Day cooking, and a good way to meet my new teammates. It starts in Santa Monica and loops around the PV Golf Course at a social pace.

To be honest, I'm just going to ride from my doorstep, over to the RB and try to get in 50 miles. I'm starting at 6am which will ensure my getting back in time to make the broccoli and get gussied up. Also, I won't be a worry wart with other riders and a pain in the behind. But I appreciate the offers to ride (Sheldon and Happy). :o

 I want to do the Turkey ride, John, but I can't if the timing gets me back maybe by 1pm. It's called responsibility and unlike you boys, I can't just shower and throw a shirt and pair of pants on. I have to (and want to) look nice. So, I'm going out earlier to ride and it will be lonely, but still fun. I'm starting in the dark - want to join?

As for night ride up East Fork... No way, with the creepies out there, that would be scary! I'd consider a night ride up GMR maybe.

Well, there's got to be something more funner than the RB.

I'm coming back GMR, btw. But you make a good point, I didn't think about the "interesting" people that live at Camp Williams and the surrounding environs, I was only worried about cars and stuff.

I'm not doing loops around the RB, silly. I'm riding from Sherman Oaks to the RB and climbing up in the canyons and then heading back. I'm NOT doing laps! Talk about boring.

If you do the East Fork Ride, John, do not do it alone. Seriously, a man was killed out there in the last year (shot) and you just don't know who is out there and it is so remote. Just my two cents...but I suspect Sonia...ahem...would agree.:p

Sheldon, if we do this route I would more than likely extend it a bit and run down the backside of Stunt to Schuren to Piuma then to Cold Cyn and return Mulholland.... Did this this past Saturday. Or... Something else fun.. Maybe PCH to Mulholland for the 7 mile climb home ?

Last Saturday I did the ride that is planned by CVC for T-Day and extended it to Piuma, etc. Total time was about 3.5 hours... It can be done in 2.5 - 3 hours if you want to mash a bit on the flats and downhills.
