Years ago, maybe 25 or so, my older brother told me this: water dripping on a rock, over a period of time, wears a hole in the rock.

If I persist in doing what I believe is right (biking for transportation and walking) will I wear a hole in the motoring establishment?

As a group, will we cyclists change things if we persist and don't quit, ever?

?

Hi,
there is a change a coming. What will change people is money, sorry. Once
the cost of gas hits some absurd price; you will see people do a lot of things.
When we had the gas shortages in the 70's, that was also when people bought cars with good gas mileage, and thats when the bike boom hit.
Commodity pricing is a bit weird. While it can anticipate some things, and adjust amazing well to others...there is a horizon beyond which it doesn't react. If you live long enough, you will see a lot of people on bikes, but my guess is it will be a while.

I forsee people using bikes and walking as a preferred means of transportation in the future. But rest assured, it will cost plenty.

When a water droplet falls from a solid object, its falling exerts a force on the water behind it, moving the next droplet closer to falling. When you look for the effects of your actions, you look in the wrong place if you look for large changes. Instead, look for a person you have moved, even a little. The hole in a rock is the result of cumulative change. No one water droplet makes much of a difference, but the combined effect of all the water droplets is the hole. In the same way, no one person makes much of a difference, but the cumulative effects of all the people connected to the one person does make a difference. What did Arlo Guthrie write in Alice's Restaurant? Three people make a movement (maybe I have the wrong number).

Maybe in the future we will have transporters -( in malls, workplaces etc.) then cars will only be driven for pure enjoyment - hence fewer on the roads.... wait a minute!!! then they might get rid of roads for extra housing - my road bike would not be much use then - assuming ITs still around and I'm still around. This is starting to get complicated

Yes, but unfortunately that hole in the rock is not going to happen in my lifetime. :(

Sorry, but NO. We can only change ourselves.

Perhaps if I rode a horse long enough people would change.......see what I mean?
