Hi all. I just saw this pic of the 2004 Specialized rockhopper frame. I have the 2003 one and i heard some stories for the 2002 model that the seatstay collapsed under heavy disc brake loads. It was said that this was refined in 2003 by adding an extended weld that run up the seatstay for about 20mm from the discbrake mount. However i came up to this pic that shows a new reinforcing brace between the chain-seatstays for the disc brake mount. Is that needed to reinforce a possibly lighter seatstay for 2004 or this means that the 2003 model has problems and that i might see my seatstay cracked? Here is the pic.

Any feedback will be wellcome plz. ALso what are the chances to get a 2004 frame as a replacement if the 2003 design is indeed flawed and an extra brace was needed?

By the way here is a link with most of specialized 2004 lineup.

I have no comment on what you are asking. But I do have a comment on the bikes...

The enduro is ugly. The Sx frame looks hotter than last year and when the heck are they gonna do some good colours on specialized. Sheesh. I do like the bighit comp hmmmm

I will say one thing. If there was a real problem they would have done a recall. I wouldn't be concerned

I will give it a test but I am looking for a little longer travel for the mountain. in the 6inch range :)

Fair enough again...though i dont know how much travel the 04 SX will have. There is a general trend for 04 Specialized models to have more travel than 03. Even the Epic went to 5". Anyhow the SX seems like a bloody good frame, i am looking forward to a descent pic though. (OH NO I WONT JUMP TO THE FS WAGGON....dont find me a pic...:D)

My key choices are

1 - stinky
2 - bighit comp or expert(I have a friend that can get it, well for a good deal)

If I don't get either of those I will built up a frame on
1 - Transition Dirtbag
2 - Banshee Scream

:)
