Well, I picked up my new LeMond today, the shop closed at 7pm and I didnt finish work untill 6.30 so I didnt have time for a good fitting. I have the saddle height good but was wondering if there is a measurement for the height of the stem, it looks kinda high to me and I cant find anything on the web.
I want to ride it tomorrow so if I can get this sorted tonight I would be most gratefull :D
Thanks

Are you going back into the shop after the weekend for a good fitting? A fitting makes all the difference in the world for your comfort on the bike. They should swap out stems for you at no charge to get you the right height and length for your body. Have a great ride tomorrow, but make sure you go back into the shop for a proper fitting. I did the same thing about a month ago when I got my new bike at a special night sale. The LBS was too busy to fit it right then, so I called the next day to make an appointment. The fitting really made the bike feel different and more comfortable. What Lemond model did you get? Congrats!

I got a 2002 Nevada City on sale for $450.00 on sale because someone ordered it and didn't pick it up. Its a small framr and I have a 29 inseam so it fits me perfect. Its a start for me and as I get better then I'll upgrade to a better bike

I would have the shop fit you to the bike. Just remeber that they will get you close, you can make changes as you body changes. I have seen people riding a poor fit because the shop said it was right.

I went back to the shop and they said they will have to order a longer one. It should be here by Friday so I'll have to do for now.
They didn't seem very helpfull, maybe because it's a cheap bike and not a $2000. Bianchi  so I think I'll get the new stem and look for someone else to help me in the future (they said I get a free tuneup for a year :))

I noticed that nearly every picture I see of a pro bike, the seat is alot higher than the stem but mine is only about 1-1.5 inches lower than my seat, is this right  .

I went to the links for fitting and none of them told me what that should be though the did help me with my seat height:) .

I'm getting ready for a long ride tommorrow to give her a good run in and then an hour every morning till Friday :D .

Any other suggestions about my stem height would be gratefull

My stem is maybe 1.5 inches below top of saddle.
I don't race, don't need the aerodynamics of an
extremely low stem.
Its a much more comfortable ride for me having the stem up
high, looks very "retro" too!

There really is not right or wrong for height, as long as you
are comfortable on the bike.
