I'm having trouble finding a picture of a mass sprint. Particularly one where at least a few people are in the process of swinging their bikes back and forth. Help please?

Thanks,
Brian.

perfect. Who's that guy who's all excited in the second picture? I recognize Zabel and McEwen, but I'm not that up on my pro racers and their "o" faces.

Thanks Again,
Brian.

Looks more like an "o *****!" face!

I had problems finding good pictures on Google when I searched for "field sprint" and "bicycle sprint"... then I searched for "Robbie McEwen". :D

And a bonus. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ji_XcHvJvac) Love him or hate him, McEwen does make things more exciting!

on other web forums, I've seen Mcewen referred to as ALG (angry lawn gnome). Seems very fitting, he does look like an ALG, especially the shot where he wins and is pointing at his jersey with both hands.

Robbie is my favorite sprinter. When other guys need a long lead-out, he doesn't. He comes out of nowhere. He is an amazing bike handler. He's just fun to watch.

That's Thor Hushvold. He pulled his foot out of the pedal in a bumpy sprint. He soon calmed down though...once he realised he was going to put on the yellow jersey, even shook Mcewan's hand.

The down-side of sprinting (sorry for the unintentional pun):

Not a sprint, but still a cool picture. The black and white gives it a nice retro look, even theough the helmets clearly show it's a recent picture:

It took a while to find this one, but here's Bart Voskamp and Christian Henn at stage 19 of the Tour de France in 1997:

And video footage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn-kj7MnJFc) of the sprint. There was an interesting finish in the chase group too, when Serguei Outschakov was almost taken in to the barriers.

Bennati, by the looks of it.

I also think it was Bennati, from the 2005 Paris-Tours.

A bit old school, ;), but from the 1939 Giro della Campania, left to right, Cinelli, Bartali, Rimoldi and Servadei.

Did Bugno lose that sprint because he celebrated a little too early?

Nope. Bugno won that one in 1994. Of course Museeuw managed to snag a few wins of his own in other years. :)

 I was wondering "WTF? Is that some kind of photoshop? Had the rider on the left crashed and continued without his bike?" ...Then I looked closer and noticed the rollerblades. :o I'm going to blame it on just waking up after Thanksgiivng, but thanks for posting the cool pic!

when would a rollerblader be able to keep up w/ a cyclist like that? On a downhill only course?

I would say it's a short sprint race since a rollerblader can get into top speed from a standing start quicker than a track bike.

I was running a 'Save the Cypress Gif thread' campaign a while back and just stumbled across it on one of the various gif tribute sites! :)

I thought it was humorous. :D
