Hello,

I have a pair of Addidas which use a string/velcro lace system. I like these shoes a lot, I have wide feet so finding cycling shoes to fit that don't totally kill me in the pocket book was tough. I've been having an issue with not being able to loosen the lacing system lately. I've noticed that the sweat from my feet is wicking up to the pull laces (which are attached to the velcro tabs, which hold them tight) and then salting in place in the eyelets through which they are laced. They've been tough to move for a while, and are becoming impossible more recently. Has anyone else had this problem with these or any other shoes?

My only solution so far is to get the strings wet so the salt dissolves. Ten they slide through freely again. But I'm looking for a more permanent solution, i'm not sure how grease or oil would affect the synthetic strings, and they won't be easily replacable if it messes them up.

I've include a picture of the whole shoe becaus I can't remember the model #, and a close up of the string going through the eyelet on the instep of the shoe. You can't see the salt very well, but it's in there. The white crusty stuff is the salt, and the red stuff is clay dust from the field where we play bike polo.

Maybe some new laces?

The laces are not replaceable, at least not without replacing the whole shoe.

Just wash them throughly with water. They sell a waxy spray that you can spray the shoes with to make them more water repellent.

If you put a bread bag over your foot before putting the shoes on the laces will remain dry. You might start losing some of that unsightly foot fat as well.
Good luck!

Putting a little wax on the friction surfaces will not hurt anything.

Give the shoes a good washing and allow them to dry completely, then spray them with silicone lubricant.

Example: http://www.filmtools.com/silspraylubp.html

You might need to reapply the silicone periodically but it should keep the salt from building up.

I have to say I've never heard of anyones foot sweating to that extent.

As others have said, a good washing and then some protective spray.

You might want to just consider a different brand shoe.

Clean the laces and then try waxing them(candle wax may even work).

thanks guys, I like the wax Idea...don't know why I didn't think of that myself. I have some ski wax around somewhere.

I had a friend in milwaukee who's fee sweated a lot more than mine. We both had a pair of Lake brand winter boots.... He would have salt rings forming at every one of the boot's seams. Just a disclaimer that I don't have the ickiest pair of feet out there. (they don't even usually stink (unless I wear synthetic socks)).

Thanks again,

Orange.
