With daylight getting shorter and my work hours getting longer, it appears I'm going to need a light for my bike if I am going to get any riding done.

I need something durable since 90% of my riding is off-road. I don't need 5 hours of battery life, I just need enough to get back to my car (or home) once dusk sets in.

Any recommendations?

For off-road stuff like that, I'd go with either a HID system or a much cheaper LED. I don't trust halogen and their ability to loose their bulb filaments under extreme vibration.

I dunno, I've never actually been off-road at night.

You probably already got a light but, for anybody else who reads this thread that is searching for a light....

I've had a few lights, from the $400 Niterider system, to the Cateye $5 system. As much as I like my Niterider, I have to give the thumbs up to VistaLite. They seem to offer the best bang for the buck, and their rechargeable battery system is the smallest. SuperGo sells them for under $70, which is very inexpensive for a rechargeable light system. Easy mounting, quick recharge, small size, and cheap price = highly recommended.
