So who builds all these Mighty Mike trails through the forests, anyway? I've sure never seen one like that.
Got me a unicycle on order, but don't plan to do ANY of that stuff.

An interesting thing about riding a unicycle is that eventually you get bored with it...and then you start looking for ways to keep it interesting. Riding around your neighborhood is fun when it's a challenge but when it's just a slow way of getting around your neighborhood, you'll find that you don't ride as much anymore. The thing about Muni riding is that it gets more challenging with your abilities. The same reflexes that keep you upright on smooth surfaces can be honed to do the same on worse and worse surfaces. A couple of years ago I went to a Muni weekend over in the Santa Barbara, CA area and the whole weekend was a blast. Each day they shuttled us to the top of a 4 or so mile nasty downhill and we set out. There were more than 50 riders that weekend I think and most of them were better riders than me. They followed the weekend up with a Trials competition in a parking lot with built up obstacles etc...and anyone could compete. I've been wishing I had the time to get back out there because the trails were so great and I've got a few friends I used to ride Muni with years ago and would love to share the trails with them. Anyway, don't rule it out until you've improved enough to give it a try.

I hadn't thought of it that way. But to be honest, using one of the 36" unicycles on the road sounds like more fun to me than mountain unicycling (ditto with biking). Regardless, you've got to walk before you can run, so it's a moot point for a while.

I've been seeing that bridge rail part of the video for a few years, but that helmet-cam perspective still makes me tense up and twitch a little!

I just bought my own uni 4 days ago. Seeing this video, I've made a vow to myself that someday I will be able to do everything that he can.
Though for now I'm still trying to figure out how to get on one without the help of a wall or something similar. My longest run on mine is so far maybe 250 feet. Helpful suggestions anyone?

You have to mount with the pedals reverse of how you would with a bicycle; you step on the back of the pedal while walking forward and holding the front of the seat, and it rolls backward under you. Then plant your back end on the seat hard - if you come out of the seat, you fall.
