Touring - Interesting senerio w/ a cracked rohloff hub

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I assume most visit Lonely Planet's forum, specifically the "on your bike" branch. For those who don't or may not have seen this thread, I thought I'd post it. BigDan has cracked his rohloff hub (discovered the crack in Lhasa) and he's trying to make it to Kathmandu w/o a new one.

A couple of Rohloff hubs have cracked flanges, pretty rare though.
Zikkes, now you tell me. Those aren't even very high mileage numbers, though probably pretty hard goes. Maybe the 32 holes isn't enough for all the happy talk.
They are bringing out a new model this year. I think it has a wider range, or something. No more gears but wider percent steps. Can't really remember, and my computer crashed, so I can't check my notes. From the sound of it I'm happy with the one I got.
