What a great ride today!

In spite of the threat of rain, and me just getting over four days of a nasty stomach virus, I set out this morning not quite knowing what lie ahead. And I had an awesome ride!!

First, for those of you that remember that I bent a tooth on my middle chainring last week...I brought my bike to work with me and had our service mgr check it out. We not only fixed the bent tooth, but we also fixed my squeaky bottom bracket and added a link to the chain.

WOW!!! What a diff. Everything worked and sounded 100% better. The Scalpel is truly an awesome machine.

*And* my skills are improving. :)

Highlights of the ride:

I was able to clear an obstacle (twice!!) that until today I had always chosen to walk around or step over.

I rode with exceptional confidence today. My max speed was 9 MPH faster than my last ride, and my average speed is up 5 MPH.

I didn't fall. Not once. :)

I hit my first stream crossing today. Twice, of course. My ass got soaked and the water was way colder than I expected. But the bike got a nice bath. I estimate the water was only 2-3" deep - Not nearly close enough to the BB to cause any problems.

I did two climbs which up until now I always chose to walk. I nearly passed out on the second. :)

Finally, I broke my single trip maximum off-road miles. Today I did 15 miles without hitting the paved trail (except to *cross* it to get to the next singletrack). I did stop a few times to catch a breath, call my wife, enjoy the scenery, chat up a couple off-road hotties.

Anyway, thanks for reading my little progress report. I'm still on a euphoric high from my ride so forgive me if I rambled.

Its nice to hear all this mate. Sound like you are in the right track. I ll follow you soon in the new season. (for me a new season starts on sept/oct. winter riding). As for now i am in a crap situation of having to find a house in a new city and relocate, on top of that i have to write down a dissertation for mathematical finance and all of this untill the 10th of September!!!!!! After that i hope that i will have a new house and get established in the new city ready to start riding again.... I havent touched my bike offroad for 2months and i hate it.

Not any time soon. Whistler and Squamish have been added to the list of non-rideable backcountry. it has also been elevated to a critical level with 10000$ fine and 6month jail term if caught. The only things open are whistler mountain itself and Sun Peaks. Looks like no more riding for me for at least a couple of weeks.

Hey Mael, from someone on the other side of North Amer., can you explain why the trails are closed?
