Charity Events - How to get a Livestrong ride in St. Louis?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Don't get me wrong, I love doing the other charitable rides, but this one hits close to home. Any ideas on how to convince them to do one here? Thanks!

I tried to contact them about something else... Go to the LAF.org web site, and "Contact Us" is nothing but a FAQ page... However the one email link is for the LiveStrong challenge, so there may be some way to influence them.

However, it seems that they would rather do just a few and have people travel. Last year there were 5 or 6, this year there were 3.

I currently live in Tampa, but I am from St. Louis, and I have attended the last two Livestrong Events in Austin. I would love to be able to "go home" and participate in this great event.

During this years ride, Kevin Livingston (St. Louis native and former Armstrong teammate), had a booth at the Livestrong Expo. It might be worthwhile contacting him to see if he could make some inquiries to the possibility of STL hosting a Livestrong Ride. I would think he has ability to talk to Lance directly, and he could get the ball rolling.

This is Kevin's website, it has all the contact info.

Last year there were 5 (Austin, Philly, Portland, Orange County, Denver) which for the most part put one in each area of the US that folks could get to. I think throwing a chicago one in there would have been cool for the mid west states. From what I understand from participating in it the past 2 years, 5 was just too many to organize for them and simply proved to be too much. They narrowed it down to 3 (basically east coast, west coast and Austin) and 2008 is going to be the same as far as I've heard (I know Austin and Philly for sure and I assume Portland again). I don't think the LAF has the man power like the MS foundation or ACS, but that's just a wild guess. Maybe once these three become more streamlined, they'll add more events back into the mix.
