I saw on KIRO news at 11pm that the Narrows Bridge bicycle lane will open on Saturday! Finally!

And it actually looks wide enough to accomodate a bicyclist without making one dizzy from looking over the side!

The view has to be amazing from the bike lane. I know driving across, one can barely see the water, but at 15mph everything looks much better.

I am curious, is it a grade separated sidewalkd/bike lane or an actually striped lane?

Its 10 feet wide with a concrete barrier about 4 feet high separating it from the actual road

There's a barrier to keep the cars from crushing us and the pedestrians. I have GOT to go check this out. Perhaps next weekend when I get dragged down to the Cabela's?

First, I've got to go check it out too! I was headed west/north bound on 16 and saw a bike absolutely flying on the down hill section and I wanted to be right there. I'm not exactly sure how to get there, I don't think there is an on ramp immediantly prior and if one was headed west/north bound how would they cross over to the bike lane?

Secondly, don't even act like you don't want to go to Cabela's! Who doesn't want to spend every second there? That place is amazing!

do they sell bicycle gear?

Haha, no they don't! However, they do have a plethora of outdoor equipment! Anything from guns to GPS units. About the only thing they have for cycling would probably be some pretty good base layers and socks.

Oh, that sounds like fun, flying down the one section :D . I thought I saw something somewhere on how to access the bike lane--perhaps one of the TV stations had a report? I'll do some checking later.

Just kidding about the Cabela's! Mr. East Hill and I visited the one in Lehi, UT (he has a sister who lives in American Fork) and were quite impressed. I'm looking forward to visiting the store, just didn't want to deal with opening day crowds  .

Interesting side note: the Lacey site used to be the Herter's location years ago, and I think Cabela's have owned the property ever since they bought out Herter's.

Where is your spirit of adventure :p ? I have to say, the motion pictures of Galloping Gertie are a bit scary, but I keep reminding myself..."it's not the same bridge, it's not the same bridge, it's NOT the same bridge  ".

East? Ever wonder what happened to all that scrap steel?:D

It's making a lovely artificial reef right under the current bridge! The remains of Galloping Gertie are on the National Register of Historic Places.

Just found this, thought people might find it interesting...

Looks like it is pretty easy to access.

I'll have to add both to my list of things to do. All the hunters I know around here have been to Cabela's already and said the crowds were crushing. Maybe after the holidays. The Narrows Bridge sounds like a great ride.

Oh yes! Not only that, but I was wondering if there was somewhere I could stash Mr. East Hill whilst I rode across :) .

Thanks Jacobi!

I think if you go early in the day to Cabela's it's not bad, but after 11.00 am fuhgeddaboutit.

FWIW, I was told by a salesperson that the crowds have been the same since opening day, and there doesn't seem to be a time that is any better than another.

I didn't think that many people lived down here. Oi-vay!
