Last year I bought a '02 Bianchi Axis (it was love at first sight), and it has proved to be such a great all around bike that I'm thinking about selling my old road bike and using the money to buy a "road" wheelset and cassette and an Ultrega triple for the front. Any forseeable problems with switching back and forth between wide ratio cyclocross rear cassette and close ratio road group? I've changed to XTR front and rear and I'm assumeing they will handle a road triple ok.

The XTR will probably handle the 52t CW, assuming it can be moved up on the frame a bit to clear the diameter difference between 48t and 52t (~5/16in). The shifting will be a bit less precise than a road group but should work satisfactorily. Rear der should wrap up the extra chain ok when in the road setup unless you go to 11-23 or less. The B screw might need adjusting to
reposition the R der, but this would just take a minute or so. Steve

Do you need to switch back and forth? Would just a change in tires be enough? Unless you are trying to take the A group on a downhill sprint a 48/11 should be tall enough. A 30?(can't remember the low ring)/28 should be plenty low as well.

The 700x35's that came on the bike have been great for most of my riding but I just did my first century and I think I'm hooked. I put 25's on and the bike handled great, I was just trying to avoid the hassel of changing tires everytime I wanted to do a long training ride and thought a closer ratio cassette might be helpful. Mostly I can't stop fiddleing with it.
Thanks Terry
