Heavy canvas cash bag that banks use makes a perfect tool bag. Just put your essentials in it and just roll it up and cinch it under your saddle with a toe strap. Nylon toe straps not allowed!!

The saddlebag thing is way cool, but the "Art Nuveo"-looking seatpost is more so!
What the heck is it?!

Thanks for bringing up this old thread.. :) I was hunting for that old photo the other day!
Anyway, I saw armoured vehicle guards transfer money in these canvas cash bags at my bank branch so one day I walked up to my teller with a big smile and asked her if she had any extra canvas bags laying around, preferably with some money in them. She gave me a couple.

First you write a note (be sure you do not use the back of an envelope with your address on it)
Then you have a friend drive you to the bank (he may want to be compensated for this favor)
Have your friend park across the street and wait for you to go into the bank with the note.
Once you have the bags run as fast as you can to the car and tell your friend to "Drive!".
If you hear a loud popping sound coming from inside the bags be careful to not stain your pants with the dye that will soon drip out of the bag.
Once you get home remove the contents of the bag and flush down the toilet ( be careful to not get the dye on your hands.
Put the bags in the washing machine (cold cycle) and hang to dry.
Add a leather toe strap and viola.
Enjoy

After two years, as a reminder, the stains are still visible....

I've seen them cheaper on ebay, but black only.
"First you write a note...."
Be sure to write "gun" clearly, so it's not read as "gub" !!
Or you'll have a Woody Allen fiasco on your hands!

I thought to get any kudos in this forum you needed to wrap your tools in a 1947 copy of "Mirroir du Cyclisme"?
George,
Is the Ti Brooks-on-Miche-post combination a perfect blend of form and function....or what?

EnjoyHA, Ha ,it is to laugh! I do not intend to rob a bank to get one .IMO there is no cycling allowed in prison.I thought maybe it could be obtained from a supply house or asked for nicely . the dye might lend the bag a nice hue when washed a few times.
I tried something similar with a free bank canvas bag, but had trouble keeping the bag in place. An elegant solution... if it you can get it to work.
