Hello Everyone!
I have been playing with idea of biking to work in order to get in miles during the week as well as saving money since gas prices are sky high. I live in Willow Glen (Downtown San Jose) and Work in Hayward. I am wondering if anyone has any good routes from Downtown San Jose to either Fremont Bart Station or Downtown Hayward. Or if anyone can recomend some site to help me map out a route.
Any help would be awesome!:D

www.511.org They have bike route maps on-line for the entire bay area.
I went there, checked the south bay map and saw two possible routes. One goes all the way over to Milpitas and the other goes northwest a bit then over the south end of the bay on some bridge.

When I rode to work I went to Parkmoor and Meridian. I would come out of the shopping center on Parkmoor to Leigh. Take Leigh/Shasta to Park, left on Park to Taylor, right on Taylor to 13th. Left on 13th becomes Old Oakland Road. Take that all the way into Milpitas. North of Montague it splits, follow that to the right(Main?). Follow that under the 237 overpass to a stop sign, and go left. Right on Able until it becomes Milpitas Blvd. North on that (becomes Warm Springs). Warm Springs becomes Osgood, becomes Driscoll. Left on Paeo Padre, then right on Walnut to BART. Reverse the route to get home.
To ride all the way to Hayward, stay on Driscoll until you get to Mission Blvd. Left on Mission and stay on it to Hayward.
It's shorter to go up Old Oakland Rd than going northwest then across the Dumbarton Bridge.
I'm not sure how you want to get to 13th from Willow Glen, I'm at the Post Office on Parkmoor.

Thanks again!:D

I'm the membership dude for the Fremont Freewheelers. Knee injury in 2005 kept me mostly off the bike until last year. I totalled just over 400 miles in 2006. I have over 1,400 this year, but my joints(wrists, neck) aren't what they used to be, so I switched to a recumbent. My right knee is also 80% gone, so I can't ride as long or hard as I used to. This is my first season with the 'bent, and it takes 2-4 seasons to get the different muscles built up. Still slowly losing the weight I gained (over 60 pounds)and building my cardio back up. Most of my rides are with the Fremont Freewheelers. I also ride with the Recumbents of the East Bay group when I'm off.
I deliver mail out of the Parkmoor Post Office at Parkmoor and Meridian. With my knee, there won't be any more attempts to commute by bike. I take the ACE train from Fremont. Got an older hybrid for fair weather riding between the train and home/work. From where I am now near Thornton in Newark, the round trip I outlined would be about 47 miles. That's with taking Grimmer from Warm Springs, cutting in front of the NUMMI auto plant, and riding up Cushing/Boyce/Cherry into Newark.
Oh, be careful when taking the bridge over the railroad tracks in Milpitas. They want bikes to take some trail there, but I just rode over the bridge on the right. Just enough room for most vehicles to pass. I didn't always make it over to the left turn lane to get on Milpitas Blvd in heavy traffic, and had to cross over on the right side and turn and wait for the green light on Milpitas Blvd, like a pedestrian would.
