Keeping Old Parts

Is there any point in keeping OEM parts from a bike when replaced? I just got some FSA bars and stem and also have a Thomson seat post inbound. I can't see any reason to hang on to the original stuff but figured I would drop a quick note in here to see if there are other opinions. It would be different if this was really good stuff but....

I would unless they are plain unusable. You never know when a stray frame may come your way longing to become a beater/rain bike. That's when it's nice to have free spare parts hanging around.

You should always save those parts for your future fixed/singlespeed/commuter project. :D
Unless I can get good money for them I save all parts.

I keep old parts until I decide I really like the new parts better. Then, keeping them around is useless unless it's an item that breaks or wears easily, then it becomes my backup. As mentioned above, keep them around if you have the possibility of building another bike. I definitely won't be doing that any time soon, so I don't bother.

Well, I doubt I'll ever build another bike. And getting new bars if I wanted them for a project just isn't that expensive that I'd sweat buying 'em!

I second keeping them around. I always find something to do with them. There are always some components I want to keep when I sell a bike so it is good to have some old stuff to put back on. A couple of weeks ago after riding a freind's mountainbike I had the thought that I should try a longer stem on mine. I was able to dig through my "box o parts" and find the perfect cheap stem to test out. It worked great and of course now I have a Thompson on the way which of course means the box o parts count will increase by one;)

keep them incase you come across a deal that need a few touch up parts.

The bar and stem that I got are all aluminum, so it doesn't really apply. But still it's nice to have a set of backup (from stock components) in case something fail... or if your friend needs a spare for backup/try-out. :)
