I have an early 90s cannondale touring bike that I need to replace the freewheel and the chainrings on. I use this as my commuter so I would like to keep purchases for it on the cheap. I'm not concerned about brand or weight, just price (and it should be at least marginally durable).
I'm looking for a roughly 13-30 range 7 spd freewheel, two 110bcd rings around 40t & 50t, and a 74bcd ring around 30t.
So far I've found freewheels in the range of $10-15 that would work (nashbar/performance) but haven't had much luck with inexpensive chainrings. The chainrings all seem to be in the range of $20+ per ring. At that price, I might as well get a cheap square tapered crankset in the $50-60 range.
I've looked through some ebay listings, jensonUSA, nashbar, performance, and pricepoint with no luck. Does anyone have any good suggestions for other sources? Or is this price pretty much what I should expect for chainrings and instead consider the crankset option? Thanks!!
