General Cycling Discussion - Cannondale Paint Crazing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I'm assuming it's an efflorescence of the aluminum. Anyone else get alum corrosion under their paint. Is there any way to halt it?
D*Alex the matallurgist, the bat signal is up.
There is a possibility of getting corrosion under the paint. If there's trapped moisure during the painting process, this can eat away at the aluminum and cause corrosion. I wonder if this is a warranty item? You can usually strip away the paint, sand away the corrosion and repaint it with primer properly. That will usually get rid of the problem.
D*Alex is banned, remember? :(

I seem to recall it was a suspension rather than an outright ban. I hope he returns, I quite miss the old grouch.
Greg - talking to a metal fabricating colleague, your diagnosis sounds correct as is Chi's solution.

I remember him! Why was he banned? I missed that.
I have had paint problems on 'dales over the years. They always seem to spread from places where another metal contacts the aluminum frame. When you have 2 metals in near contact and a little salt (sweat) what you have is a battery or instand corrosion.
My experience does not sound quite like yours though.
Also, hosing the bike down after rides with a water bottle seems to help ****** the process by washing off the salt.
