I'm experimenting with using a heavy duty lighting rig to lock a little outdoor digital camera on my bike. Here's a test result, taken en route to work this morning through a construction zone in Anchorage. The vids I took earlier in the commute were on darker streets at a higher speed and didn't turn out well. Poor lighting and a mid-range camera aren't the best combination. Any tips would be appreciated.

Conditions were dark of course but with excellent ice and snow on the roads. Some slight cornmeal snow but no chunder (yet). This early in winter the snow hasn't had a chance to really build up into bike-toppling berms or huge blocks of ice and grit.

Its still dry and fairly warm on the 51st Latitude. We had some snow but it melted within a day or two.

They're Nokian Freddies from 2006(?) I think they've changed the design since then. The spikes are still holding. Here's some video I shot during "daylight" so you can see a bit better.

Yeah, I would have been over there. I was doing a little swing around after work to drop of drycleaning. If you saw a big round guy with a BOB trailer on his rig, that was me.

To me it sounded like the snow creaking. When it gets really cold, it makes that kind of crunchy noise when you walk on it. I remember that sound from my youth growing up in Mpls.

The creaking is the drivetrain. I can't find anything specifically wrong with it but it does make a lot of noise when it's freezing out. The rattle is my BOB trailer and the studs also make some noise. And the snow is making noise as well, of course. I had the camera locked to the frame so I think it was picking up some frame vibrations as well. Pedestrians hear me coming in the winter.

Amen. It's an awesome video. My wife was watching a show in the next room and said, '"What's that?!" When I told her what the noise was she had me replay it for her. She kept saying, 'Raise the camera!" "This is freaking awesome!" "Where's he shooting this?" Pretty funny. Love the end where you stop and a pedestrian walks in front of your rig. Nice touch. :D She may get me a camera for Christmas now...:p
