Hey

I've been mountain biking on local trails and a couple local tracks for about 2 years now and I think it's time for me to really start getting into competitive racing, probably XC. I'm kind of at a loss of a way to get myself in better shape. Could any of you maybe give me some suggestions on some basic training techniques for me? And maybe some nutrition suggestions as well?

Thanks a bunch :D

Do intervals (alternating hard and easy riding) or ride more hills.

Pick up a copy of Joe Friel's Mountain Bikers Training Bible (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1884737714/interactiveda163-20). You will be amazed at how much information it has. For less than $14 you can't go wrong.

Also, if you really want to be competetive racing mountain bikes be prepared to do a lot of road riding. It's much easier to be consistant when training when riding the road, you also break a lot fewer parts.

Wow, 40 miles off road twice a week around here would kill most people. Concentrate more on time and quality than miles. Miles don't mean crap.
