You bring back so many memories. My wife and I lived in Evander for two years while I worked for the old Union Corp. Limited in the Gold mines there. Back in the 1970s. We met the head of Site Security when Secunda was being built and toured the torn-up dirt. The big shaft for the coal mines had not even been started. Back then I was the only white adult in Evander who biked.

Hi East Hill,
There are lots of farm roads and singletrack around here. Sometimes we pack the bikes in the trailer and go to the "Suikerbosrand (http://www.wheretoride.co.za/)" (about 100Km from here) where there are some great trails!

Hi Ken!

Nice to meet you! I often ride to Evander for "training" rides. :o) It is still there, and I'll bet it even looks the same as when you were here! Secunda (http://www.secunda.co.za/frontend/) is a big town now! Almost too big, actually. I've been here for about 30 years now.

Hi lotek!

Amazing how small the world is on the internet! Anyway, I go down to Sodwana regularly (I'm a diver too) Great to take the bike with and ride up to Adlams reef. You can't get there any other way (except maybe walking, but it is about 10Km) since the beach has been closed to 4x4 traffic. (Thank goodness!) For awhile there it was like a damn highway up and down that poor beach!
I love Sodwana, one of my favourite places on earth.

Here (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=sodwana&w=7997249%40N06) is a few of my Sodwana pics. Unfortunately my underwater camera housing sprung a leak and killed my camera, so no new underwater photos for awhile. :o(

PS: Send me your address, and I'll send over some biltong and winegums! :o)
Your afrikaans is still pretty good!

Groete, en dit was lekker om jou the ontmoet! (Greetings, and nice to meet you)
Johann.

johann,

dit is baie lekker!
your Sodies photo's make me homesick (and I do miss RSA).
I'm glad they finally stopped allowing bakkies and 4x4s on the beach
it really was getting out of hand.
So, who did you dive with? I worked with The Dive Shop out of Sandton
usually stayed at Coral Divers or in the park lodges.
Friday night dinner at leatherbacks. . .ah what a life.

Hi, thanks for all the welcomes! (And thanks to you, East Hill)

Lotek: Yes, I usually dive with Coral, (I did my Padi Openwater with them) but sometimes I dive with reefteach. I am going down in February again, (This time of year gets too busy there) we usually camp in the parksboard campsites. Cheap, and it is great having a braai under the trees in the evening.

Anyway, nice to meet you all!
Life is short, so enjoy everything you can while you can! (Which is why I commute on my bike, I hate sitting in that steel and plastic cage while I could have been on my bike.)
