Road Cycling - Newbe question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am about to buy a road bike, or a simi road bike. My question is this: I have tested a Specialized Sequoia Expert, this bike has carbon front and rear forks, and a suspension seat post. So here is the question: Should I buy this bike (list about $ 1200.00) or would I be better off buying another bike and adding carbon forks, and suspension seat post, to make it more comfortable?

No way to answer the question. There are hundreds of different bikes you could use as your base to add these things to. Top it off with no information about you, your riding style, or why you would want to modify other bikes, and there really isn't any way to give a good answer.

Well I am using the bike to stay in shape for Vintage MX, also for general health and circulation reasons. Riding here is rather flat, East Texas, and I have about a 15 mile loop here, with very low traffic. So I guess I could say I enjoy the ride, but don't think that a person should have to be punished to enjoy riding. That is why I am talking about the seat post, and forks.

There's no way you can tell how a bike will feel until after you buy all the stuff and put it on the bike. It will probably cost more to do it that way. You know how the Sequoia feels when you ride it. Get the bike you like after test rides.
Exactly what Dchiefransom said. You need to get out and try the bikes first and go with what feels right. I will say that I'd try a few other bikes to make sure the Sequoia is the right bike.

The overall geometry of the Sequoia is different than standard road frames. I think you would have a tough time, wind up spending more, and still not having the same mix of comfort/performance. Try some others, just to minimize doubts, second thoughts, and potential regrets. If the Sequoia Expert captures what you're looking for, and fits right, go for it!
I really do not suggest upgrading. You get a pretty good deal on components on a bike. Buying them piecemeal is more expensive. Also you end up buying the stuff twice. If you like this bike, just buy it as is.

FWIW, the fork is on the front, the stays are on the back.
