Me and two of my friends met at the bowl and cruised over to meet up with the group. I was hurting so bad, but it was a great way to finish off a long week. Now it's time for a day or two of recovery :)
Anyways, I met someone from here at the Sierra Madre Juice Co. I caught your name, but I can't remember what it was now. Chime in so I can put a face with the name next time I'm out there!

It's not me, but I believe roadfix/George does the Montrose ride.

I do it, too, just not today. Bigdraft and redal do the Montrose ride, too
BTW, my name's Josh. Chepe or Ivan could have told you who I was since I talked to both of them today as well. I thought you might recognize the jersey. We talked in a different thread and you mentioned that you know my teammate Gustavo.

Awesome, sorry about the confusion. I thought you said something completely different when you said "redal" It was loud and I was a bit out of it from not eating breakfast before the ride. I didn't even look at the jersey, haha. Thats what I get for not eating or drinking anything before a ride.
Sorry dude, I wish I had known it was you when we talked! I would have invited you down to my place in Pasadena to eat lunch with Chepe, Ivan and me. It was Ivan's first time doing the Montorse ride, so Chepe and I met him at the Bowl and the three of us cruised over to Trader Joes together. We might be there again next week, hopefuly I'll see you then!
BTW, where the hell has Gus been lately? I haven't seen him in a while.

Thanks, I had a couple of more hours to ride anyways. I was wondering the same about Gus. I know he said he was going to start doing Simi, so he's probably been out there. I actually need to get a hold of him and see what his plans are for next year.

Yeah, kick his ass for me if you have to. Last I talked to him he was doing Simi and was still training. I just haven't seen him around lately.

Hi Enzo..I was there too..when we were coming down from the Descanso start, I was on the front and either you or your friend was on my wheel and when I motioned for whoever it was to come around, he said he didn't know which way the route went, so I pulled until Salvia Cyn, where we dove down into the bowl..my name is Pat btw. You guys rode well

Awesome. I'll look forward to meeting you guys soon. I didn't start at Descanso, it was probably either Jason or Dan. Both of them have never done the ride before, so it must have been them.
Chepe and I met up with Ivan at the Bowl and the three of us cruised over to Trader Joes together to wait for the peleton. We were all waiting to make a left at the light on Mission when the Peleton caught up, so if you saw a Bearclaw guy at the light, that was me.
Did you go short or long?

Neither of those places do it for me. I'm partial to the espresso and cappucino my machine makes. After the ride sometime, I'll make you guys some :)
Josh, what's up? The Coffee Bean wasn't good enough for you today?
There's a Starbucks at the end of the ride. No Coffee Bean. Someday you guys are going to have to go past Gladstone to the finish of the ride and I'll buy you some coffee at the Starbucks in Sierra Madre. Coffee Bean, Peets, Starbucks, AMPM, 7-11 or my house, they all get the job done for me.
haha you could barely keep up with fixer and he is cruisin most of the time.

Cool. That means I won a race and I didn't even have to get my heartrate over 165 until the last 1/4 mile. Are there upgrade points? Can I put this on my resume?

It's called a training program Einstein. I wasn't supposed to go over 165 yesterday. I did at the end so that I could smoke the pretenders like you. I won't make it out to Reseda because I refuse to drive to train, but any Saturday that you want to make it out to the Montrose ride or any Sunday that you want to make it out to Azusa Canyon, I'll drop your *****. I probably won't need to get it over 165 either. Oh yeah, you might crash in the canyon because the motorcycles do like to get close. Ride your bike a little with the fast group and you won't get freaked out when somebody gets within a foot of you. Talk to me about going fast when you have a USAC license that at least has a category 2 on it. BTW my heartrate goes up to 198. Yeah I'm old, it used to go to 205. I've accepted the age thing because I'm stronger and it's fun to drop young posers like you.

The Soviet doesn't accept challenges from the likes of you. Maybe you should move up through the ranks before trying to "challenge" me. I would say that in a couple of years you might have a chance but since you're only getting older...sorry. Hey, if you have kids, in 20 years they'll have a chance when I'm old and brittle!!!

Oh I'm relieved you won't accept my challenge. I can't really move up through the ranks anymore unless I take out a pro license. Unfortunately I make more at my day job than 85% of the domestic pros and I'm at a point in my life where I can't afford a pay cut and I don't really enjoy going on the road anymore. I do have a child. She is a freshman at Brea Olinda High School and will be the starting center on their varsity basketball team. Oh yeah they are ranked fourth in the state this year. I'm sure she would love to humiliate you if you can play basketball. Ovo, I actually think your funny since you don't hesitate to talk shlt to anyone, but sometimes you step on toes.

It also means you dropped me, Chepe, Ivan and a few others guys.
So yes, do put this on your resume.
Dude, I told you I raced with Chepe in 1993. He's got one year on me. I'm 34 with a B.A., a J.D., a teaching credential and a 14 year old. The fountain of youth is the bicycle. I think I have good genes as well. My mom is 52 and still gets carded for alcohol. BTW, I got carded buying tequila earlier this evening.
"It also means you dropped me, Chepe, Ivan and a few others guys.

That was a joke. I'm at the point where I don't worry about a race resume anymore. I had some really good offers from some prominent teams this year, however, I was offered the chance to run our clubs 1-2 team and I took it. At this point I would rather run a team of guys that I want to race with and have fun than worry about having to race for results to impress a sponsor.

I know it was a joke mate, I was kidding, too. I get a kick out of the people who show up to group rides and treat it like a race.
But, since it IS a race now, we need to get jerseys made. Overall, sprinters, KOM... you get the drift. ;)

Today was pretty awesome. Heading West on Sierra Madre, past GMR, I made the mistake of leaving my jacket halfway unzipped. The headwinds turned it into a huge sail, and the cord from my headphones made it impossible to zip up. I got dropped as I tried to fight the wind and get it zipped up.
After 15 or 20 minutes of riding alone, I caught the peloton, but I was pretty tired once I did. I spent the rest of the time taking it as easy as possible.
Bigdraft, contact me via PM about my friend. Ill pass on your information to him.
Good seeing you again Josh.

I got in right before the campus sprint. Right before Irwindale Speedway I got on the front and didn't go more than five back the rest of the ride. Four of us got away where we turn right for the long ride on Gladstone. Shortly after that there were two of us and Jon and I rode all the way to the finish by ourselves. The weather was awesome. On my home I took the long way through Azusa Cyn. and up and over GMR.

Wow, sounds nothing at all like my ride, hahahaha.
My ride:
Ivan met me at my place, we rode down Huntington at about 10mph until the group came. We turned around and sat at the back almost the whole time, and we did the short route. We sat around and drank peanut butter shakes for about 30 minutes (at which point you were probably about to finish the long ride) and then rode back to my place and sat around even more (at which point you were probably headed up Hwy. 39) It was a pretty impressive day on the lazy scale....
...but it's always good to see the fast guys giving themselves a lazy day, too. Good motivation.
Gustavo's been on a warpath, we all need to get together and go riding. Me him and Chepe went out to eat the other night and your name came up.

No i wouldnt take challenged from a guy on a tricycle...Are you serious?

Your daughter has no hopes of beating a Russian. We dont play this, "basketball", in the motherland...we play the true sport, football. You call it soccer...but thats ok, the whole world calls it football. But if your daughter wants to know what its like to lose, you can bring her.
I'm not talking shlt. I'm expressing how good I am.
If you want to have a philosophical debate, we can. I would first like to point out that fundamentally your arguments are hypocritical as you like to boast about your "racing".
So, did you relax already? Cause getting raged is not good for your racing

I meant that they are taking too much time to read. I need the condensed version. Cliff's notes or something.
Anyway, I did the Montrose ride a couple of weeks ago and it was great. I plan on doing it more often as the tail end kicks my @$$ into shape.
the beginning is too slow imo, they need to ramp it up at the start. Too bad its the same route everytime, that area is nice, they should mix it up

That's because they plan on going further than 8 miles! lol
I agree the route leaves plenty to be desired. It runs through the worst part of the area. It would be nice to have a big ride that loops through the hills of Glendale and Montrose (Lida, Chevy Chase, Verdugo). I suppose they choose that route because it's not very hilly, but we already have a nice, flat ride every Tue and Thurs at the Rose Bowl.
