Well, my wife and I are expecting our first child this month. I have already cut my weekly miles to maybe 30 or so, coming from100+ miles. Anyway, everyone tells me to ride as much as I can now, cause I won't be doing much when the baby comes. I am sure this is true, to a certain extent, but I will still have some opportunities to ride post baby. My question is what would be the best riding to do to optimize my saddle time? At my disposal I have a road bike, a fixed gear bike, and a SS mtb. I have my fixie set up on a recently acquired trainer right now, but its just not the same feeling. Regardless, I'll be putting some time on it as often as I can. But when I can get out what do you think would be best?

Whichever bike gives you the best workout and that you enjoy the most. When your ride time is limited, make it fun first :)

Trust me, after the baby is born, any ride will be a good ride. My daughter is now six months old and I think I have ridden maybe 10 times since her birth. I used to log 4-5k per year. I'll get back there again some day, but for now, I am looking at Burly trailers and riding my trainer a lot. Good luck.

I think I will agree with Tom. Whatever bike and ride feels good to you that day. Enjoy it and have the fun while you can. Switch off and on with your spouse and let her have some time away from the baby also. It is good for both of you. My brother-in-law loves his Burley for taking the baby out when they ride. My baby is a Freshman in high school and is about 5'9", so I don't have to worry about that kind of thing. She is ready to drive, so bicycles is out. Enjoy them when they are little, because it doesn't take long and they are in college.
