I want to set my cross bike up with two sets of wheels so I can change wheels instead of having to change between dirt and road tires. Does this require same brand of wheels or are they all spaced the same. ????

If you're looking for a seamless transition it's best to match hubs. Otherwise you're likely to need a minor cable tension adjustment whenever you change wheels.

+1 on same hubs - that will prevent you from having to adj the rear der whenever you swap wheels.
Also matching rim widths would be nice - some rims are narrower or wider than others. Different width wheels would force you to adjust the brakes slightly to get the same feel.
Finally, make sure the rims are centered the same on both sets of wheels, so you don't have to recenter the brakes.
hope this helps,
