General Cycling Discussion - Thoughts on Sidi Dominator Mesh (vs. Lorica)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been scouring the 'net looking for a pair of Sidi Dominators that fit my foot and my budget. The ones on sale and on ebay have all been either really small or really big sizes (sale shoes) or just not my size (ebay shoes). I just found a pair of Dominator Mesh shoes, brand new, at an excellent price in my size. I'm not too sure what the differences are between Lorica and Mesh in terms of advantages and disadvantages. I'd love to order these while they are still in stock, if the mesh would not be a mistake.

My situation:

New rider, Cyclocross bike, would like to be able to do trails and road riding. Just got Crank Bros. Candy pedals. Live outside Chicago.

Thanks for any thoughts, and please don't steal this shoe deal from me!

Mesh is fine for summer riding, but sucky in the colder months. I have mesh road shoes and lorica mtb shoes. I wear the latter year round.

I'm guessing they're a hot deal because it's too cold in Chicago for mesh right now. I guess you could always buy some covers to wear over them.

The lorica is really, really nice. I've had my dominators for over 10 years.

Actually the shoes are from a bike store in the south. I think for $130 brand new, I have to jump at them. But I do wish they were the Lorica, since I've tried those on and it sounds like they're more practical.

ah.. the new ones i got that don't fit me are 39.5's so that would be painful :) anyone in the market for dom. 4 lorica's ?

on topic.. my Genius Mesh is not all that much different.. there are 2 small mesh parts in the front and on both sides of the ankle.. it's not like the whole shoe is open. I think the mesh with a pair of booties would be the most versatile. especially if you found a good price on them. You won't be disappointed.. they are kickass shoes.

Thanks, I ordered them this morning, so I don't want to hear of any great deals on the Lorica model...
