General Cycling Discussion - Bike Rage in Japan

A disabled Tokyo woman is receiving treatment for a stab wound after a man furious that she took a long time to maneuver out of the path of his bicycle attacked her, police said Wednesday.

This is something I just don't get. If you are going to ride in a place where you are likely to encounter pedestrians or wheelchairs, why get so excited when it happens? There are some real idiots in this world - maybe I'll vote Nazi at the next election. :rolleyes:

Well...

There are a lot of mentally unstable people in the world and some of them ride bikes, and some of them live in Japan.

If news like this has to come all the way from the other side of the planet, maybe the world isn't so bad after all.

I think it just proves that the world and humanity is more alike than we think we are different.

The equivalent of road rage.

Mainichi Shimbun's, literally the Everyday Newspaper, English lanuage endition is the Minichi Daily News, or the Everyday Daily News!

No wonder this Japanese cyclist went bonkers. The language drove him up the wall. The basket on his bike probably didn't help much either!

That paper looks like the equivalent of the National Enquirer here, lots of sensational headlines and little substance. I'm interested in the story of the Panawave White Cult. Sounds like a Critical Mass event for the color white.

We all have the same human nature...doesn't matter were we live In this world..we take ourselves with us were ever we go?:p

Japanese law enforcement should be able to handle fools like that.

Well, this guy was clearly insane.

I was recently in Japan, and was really amazed at how safe it is there. And nobody locks their bike! They leave it at the train station all day, every day and it is still there when they get back.

Especially at main train stations, bicycle parking lots hold hundreds of unlocked bikes and even with the very last train at 2am, every single bicycle is accounted for. It's funny how each bicycle has the owner's name and address professionally painted on with a fine brush.......in case it's lost or stolen...
Of course, one would be very stupid to leave a Colnago Oval Master there, even locked....

Don't be fooled by the naive actions of Japanese citizens. Bicycles ARE stolen in Japan and they are stolen often and in huge numbers. It is a big problem.

The Japanese will tell you that in Japan, bicycles and umbrellas are too often lost to theft.
