I'm 6'3", ~230lbs. I've been dropping weight mostly by watching my intake and doing a bit of cycling. I usually punch everything into fitday, but today I was working on other things. I fried up some tofu I'd been marinating. I totally pigged out on that, and then about two hours later, pigged out on some other tofu I'd been marinating. The marinade was salty, so I drank lots of water. I was full. I snacked on a couple of slices of whole-grain bread a little later on. Again, I felt full.

I'd had a mild headache most of the afternoon, but around 6pm, it turned evil. I'm still hurting through a pair of Advil.

I just punched everything into fitday, and discovered I was only at about 640 calories at 6pm. That's very low for me. Even at this point, I'm only at about 1100 calories for the day. I didn't ride today, but I did help a friend move.

Is it possible that my headache is being caused by either the lack of calories today, or something else related to my diet? I'm about to eat something in an attempt to straighten things out, and I'll have to remember how few calories are in tofu.

Salt can definately do that to me. Also check the marinade - if there was MSG in there that will always trigger it for me (and most asian marinades out of a package contain it in one form or another).

Low calories can do that to me too, especially if I'm thinking hard (don't laugh, didn't eat since Friday and spent half the day with tech support - damn my head hurt!!)

I'd cook some meat up and lots more water.

Soy products can mimic estrogen in the body. Eating too much of it can lead to man-boobs, throwing like your kid sister, and listening to Coldplay. :D

When I first started really watching what I ate I went through a stage where I tried to cut out almost all fat. I had days where my total fat intake was about 4 or 5 grams. I started to feel awful and actually stopped loosing weight. I started adding fat back into my diet, around 30 to 40 grams a day and weight loss took off again and I felt a whole lot better. Now I don't eat enough tofu to remember but since it's a soy product I would think you would have enough fat. My guess is the sudden cutback from calories, an essentially unbalanced diet and dehydration has caused your headache. Drink about a gallon of water, eat some fruit and veggies and see if that doesn't help.

Thanks guys. I ate a bit and felt better. I ate a bit more carefully yesterday, and still found myself awake at 3:30 AM, starving, trying to keep the nothing in my stomach down. I'm slowly easing my way through some food right now. What I did sunday was dumb, but I'm starting to think there's something wrong. I might visit with a doctor if this doesn't clear up real soon. I'm beginning to think something has screwed up my appetite. I'm not trying to starve myself, honest.

Sounds like you are getting night time insulin spikes. Try a few saltines or something and a glass of milk before you go to bed.

:D

Soy products do contain the plant analog of animal estrogen. However, this is not estrogen, and nore does it mimic estrogen in the body. The "soy products give you man boobs" statement is a bold face myth with a history of bad research and no real data. Thank the dairy, beef, and chicken industries for that one.

Truth is soy is one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Of course, your diet should be varied and not consist mainly of one food, but it is perfectly acceptable and healthy to have soy in your diet without fear of turning into a woman.

Tofu is the least manly food on earth and let's face it, it tastes awful. Never eat a food that is packaged to mimic other more tasy food...i.e. tofu pups, tofurkey...ugg.

I'm not sure what a "manly food" is. Sounds like you're stuck in some sexist world where you need to constantly prove how big your dick is to your fellow humans. The idea that a food is manly or not is simply ludicrous.

Why don't you tell all the Chinese and Japanese men that the food they have been eating for centuries isn't manly.

If you don't like the taste of tofu, fine don't eat it. But it is says a lot about your character to insult others that do like to eat it.

Tofu tastes like whatever else you cook it with. Soak it overnight in some tamari, rice wine, and chili-garlic paste then stir fry it with some veggies in a little bit of sesame oil. I can't stand all the tofu and TVP 'mimic' foods. They never taste right. If I want a hot dog, I'm going to buy a package of kosher franks. Some days, though, tofu is what I want; it's the perfect neutral transport for so many flavours.

Besides, I thought that quiche was the least manly food on earth.

I marinated some tofu in some terriaki/honey sauce and fried it up. The I added it to brown rice and it tasted great to me.

Manly foods:

Hot dogs are manly...italian sausage, bananas, kielbasa, crullers...all manly foods...

Actually I was kidding about the tofu thing (other than hating it), but it is the kind of food your wife wants you to eat.

I don't need to prove how big my dick is to anyone, I'm scottish and irish there is no hope for me. And to quote Sgt. Hulka "lighten up Francis".

I think you're confusing "phallic" with "manly".
