Paul's Racer Brakes

I am having a bike built and want to use Centre Pull brakes - had thought I would use a set of NOS MAfac RAcers I have but have changed my mind and decided to use a set of PAul's RAcers.

The PAul's are avaialble in either Centre bridge mounting style or in a post mount.

Ant thoughts from the framebuilders on which would be the preferred brake, why? I suppose the post mount would be more rigid but is it overkill?

Maybe centre mount in the front and post mount in the rear??

Thoughts?

downside to the post mount is that they're in a different position for the pauls than for traditional canti brakes. how sure are you about the pauls forever?

The mounts for the pauls are the same location as a traditional center-pull. I put a pair of old center bolt Weinmann 999's on my last bike temporarily along with rim wrangler brake shoes and it is best stopping non-cantilever brake I have ever used. I ended up keeping the center-pulls.

If you want to do a braze on center-pull, be advised that cantilever mount posts don't work, center pulls and U brakes use a different post.

I like the look of Paul's brakes, but if you do some searching around the forums you will find a few reviews that say the performance doesn't always live up to the name.

I think the performance doesn't always live up to the name, because basically, leverage is leverage. Materials and execution are tops, but it's all just what it is.

Then the next problem is a goodly number of the brakes are traditional, and there are reasons why things moved on.

And then there is the problem that whatever they were putting them on back then may not be the same as what we have now, and it won't always work in a given situation.

I like pauls, and have the neos and the Vs. If you want stopping power seems one should heed the paul warning and go with the posts. On the other hand I had Mafacs as a kid and they were center mounted, and worked great, but they didn't cost 100 each, and for that I would like to squeeze out every ounce of stopping power.
