This was a good idea, so let's start a new one (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=231419)

I'd like to propose a challenge to the Clydes & Athenas!

A) If you haven't done a metric century yet....by May 30th, 2008, have a 62 mile ride under your belt

B) If you've done the metric, then by the same date, have a century under the belt.

C) If you've already done a century, do a double metric century.

D) If you've already done a double metric - double century.

E) If you're like Tom (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=363570) - triple century

Rules of the challenge:
1: You can use SAG support
2: Pictures are a must!
3: Post your route, using either Gmaps Pedometer or Google Earth map image with waypoints posted.
4: Must complete this in a 24 hr period
5: Post your intent on the Clyde forum, listing date and planned begin/end points so we can wish you well!
6: Post ride report is a must, whether you finish it or not! No shame if ya don't finish, it's far better to try and learn from a DNF than to never try at all. The victory though is truly sweet!
7: Helmet required (Safety!)

Also feel free to note goals by the next date: November 30th 2008!

I'd like to have completed 2 Centuries by the time Spring 2008 rolls around. If my wheel situation works itself out I'll be golden :D

One of these rides I'd love to be up to Bear Mountain (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/kml/episode.kml?episodePkValues=3655715)...but I'm not sure how possible that will be.

Not to bump the old thread but I got up to a little over 100 miles on that ride out to Montauk (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=4478915#post4478915), got SAGed when I helped a few people with stuff. I did feel great by the end though, the only part stopping me now are the wheels.

By November 2008 I want to have a sub 6 hour Century under my belt and at least one trip up to Bear Mountain, more likely 2.

I'm in... although I have not yet done a metric... I should have that done by this year's end... so I'll pick Century by May 30th...

I did my first metric and imperial century this year. So I guess that leaves a double metric by 5/31/08. As long as I keep wearing the trainer out this winter that sound doable.

Also, by the end of next year I would like to do at least two other century rides with at least one of them being sub 6 hours. Plus I'd like to do the MS150 Jack & Back ride next year.

Also, at least 3000 miles next year.

Oh, I almost forgot. I'd like to do my first triathalon this summer. It will be a short one. I just want to finish it (I suck at swimming) :D

Have done many... just did one yesterday (Actually 72 miles)

B) If you've done the metric, then by the same date, have a century under the belt.
Ditto - many - last one, however was a year ago.

Same answer for the next three... no, don't wanna! Have done enough centuries to know that distance is good enough for me! I did, about 15 years ago, ride 133 miles in one day. I was in fairly good shape and the ride was easy but that was 15 years ago and I was obviously much younger. My goal for next year, is to get back into decent shape, lose the weight I gained this year (about 15 lbs) and enjoy riding. Training days are over!

C) If you've already done a century, do a double metric century.

D) If you've already done a double metric - double century.

E) If you're like Tom - triple century

I doubt if I will complete it that early in the year, but I'll set the goal...

I did a metric about 18 months ago, but didn't ride much at all this year, so I will target a metric by May 30th.

My goal for the spring is a cross state ride. Pretty much a credit card tour. I have one other coworker willing to suffer as well. I mapped it out last fall. We are planning on doing it over 3-4 days not 24 hrs. Its ~280 miles. Were not exactly sure when just yet, but I will say before June. Can I still play?
Here is the route.

OK I'm in. This year I did my first two solo centuries, both in June, then a double century in July. So anything's possible, just don't think I can squeeze in a 300 mile effort. For me that would definately involve lights.

2008 Goals:

1. Complete a double metric by May 30.
2. Improve time on July double century (STP) to 13 hours total time, sub 11 hours saddle time.
3. Ride RAMROD - 120 miles with 10,000 feet elevation (dependent on lottery issued ride slots, however).
4. 5,000 miles by 12/31/08.
5. Keep weight down to 215/220.

(Boy, I'm gonna need some new wheels and a better saddle.:()

I should be game by then, for at least a metric, although I was planning on doing one anyway by my 47th birthday  (June 18th), considering that the season doesn't often start until mid April, I will to hold my original schedule, first 100km week by May 24th, first 100km day by June 18th.....

My goals next year are really ride anywhere and everywhere! Improve my climbing and all out speed.

I've done and finished 2 imperial Centuries, dropped 2 one at 75miles the other at a Hilly 50.

I would like to attempt a Double later next year.

Drop about 20 lbs while trimming up the legs by spring so that I will feel good about wearing my new Sugarshorts. Second goal is to complete my first century.

Hey, I'll hopefully be participating in a couiple of those same events. I'm sure we'll cross paths eventually! Things got a bit busy the last few weeks (Thanksgiving plans - go figure) so I dropped the ball on planning a ride to get together with you & doghouse :(. If not this fall/winter, then definitely next spring. I will look forward to you smoking me up a couple hills since I'm a youngster (44) :D.

(makes mental note to work harder on the trainer to avoid getting smoked by old guy) :D

Stands for a few things, but the general gist is Support Aided Gear - usually a van or car that is going along with you in case something hits the fan, supplies, food/water, etc...

Why is this by May 30th? MN may be barely out from under the snow then. I'll probably be back down to 10 mile rides in the beginning of the season?

It's a lot harder to do this, when you just had six months of no riding, because there is snow everywhere, then for those folks in California or Florida, where there is narry a flake. Now I am on the DL, but yesterday the weather turned nasty, we had rain, this turned to freezing rain, overnight, which morphed into ice pellets, then mother nature covered her sins with 3cm of snow...... It's going down to -10℃ tonight which will simply turn it all into a solid mass. Then it will all melt over the weekend. I hate this time of year.....

My goals have changed somewhat; my original goal for this year was to hit an imperial century by the end of 2007, but I've got the touring bug. So:

o Get better at hill climbing
o Two more tours (at least) in 2008, 3-5 days, where I cover an average of 45-50 miles per day.
o Continue to commute, doing the full commute (i.e., not commuting to the carpool meeting place)
more often. I set this as a goal of once a week, I'm hitting more like once or twice a month now.
o Do knee exercises regularly. I obviously have weak knees, and need to work on this.
o Lose more weight - get down to 185 lbs in 2008.

2008 Goals

1) Find the perfect New Bike. (nearly impossible)
2) Ride 2000 miles this year
3) Do more Off-Road riding
4) Do more riding with spouse/son/daughter/Grand kids
5) Do more rides with the Shop Friends
6) Build one more Clyde Bike with an 853 Tube Set.
7) Figure out how to use my Heart Rate Monitor without crashing into a tree like last weekend.
8) Weight reduction from Current 255 to the 230's

Two suggestions:

Have the century attempt be part of the tour.

Stretching and strengthening the core muscles will help the knees, because the knees will then have less to do.

What's a goal without a challenge? I'm hoping to get a lot more winter riding in to make mine so I don't lose whatever conditioning I have left. I'm in NY which doesn't get hundreds of feet of snow but does get cold. Get a trainer and stay in shape if outside doesn't work.

I'm piggybacking on Tom's idea but I like the idea of having two sets of goals - beginning of the summer and at the end (6 months later, November 30th). I like the idea of making it attainable, so if none of those options are then choose one that is and make sure you nail it.

My thoughts anyway :)

Had a few good steps this weekend, did not eat nearly as much as I have in years past and even skipped pie the next day (but had some for breakfast today - we'll be walking a lot in the woods). That and I don't quite fit in my clothes and don't need to push that threshold over anymore than it already has been. :(

-Start commuting again at least part-time (new job has made this difficult, but I have ideas :))

Oh, and most importantly, make sure my new child enters the earth successfully on May 7 :)

Hmmm. Well, OK. Those other goals of mine are for the later part of the season, I guess. I'm make my May goal achieve the top mileage in one week as I had last year, which was a little over 100. I'll have to look it up. Plus, one of those days will equal my best longest ride, which was 40 miles.
