I guess I'll stick with the old MZ 300's until they're tattered. The Velcro is kind of a pain, but they have held up very well.

I'll update my post also since it came up.
The heel on mine came apart. I still have to take them in to have them sewn up. Lake told me before that they would take care of it, so I am not worried.
Everything else on them was fine. My boa system stayed tight, and works great.
I am still glad I bought them, even knowing about the heel issue beforehand. They beat the heck out of the set-up I was using before them. If something can keep my feet warm down to -15F, I'm happy.
Overpriced for the product? Somewhat.
Would I buy them again? Definately.

sounds like the more expensive (but cheaper in the long-haul) SIDI HydroGTX might be the better investment given the contents of this thread.

Well, I finally got my shoes back after like 5 weeks. The BOA thing is good as new and the heels have been restitched. They said they would use better stitching, but to be honest, it doesn't look even particularly professional, what they did. Guess I'll just give it some time and see what happens.
Thought I post an update here. Since getting them back, it took less then a month for the heels to come off again. Gave 'em to my LBS guy to deal with and, well.. hoping to get them back by next winter so I can get rid of them and get something more reliable.

Just chiming in my story is virtually identical on the MXZ302x (in a 50) heel stitching loose on one boot sent them (in march) sent them they came back a coupla weeks later. haven't worn them since. We'll see how they hold up next winter. I will say they are the most comfortable riding shoe I have ever owned. for the record I also have SIDI rocket? Bullet? II size 50 mega -- arch hits wrong (not terrible) need to wear very thin socks. Nortwave 50 standard width -- too long -- width fine still not anywhere as comfortable as the other 2

Sorry for the thread resurrection. My stitching just failed too. Contacted Lake. They wouldn't cover shipping though they'll fix the boots. I'm out $20 and a 4 week wait. All this for only $250! Sweet! It seems really weak to stitch the cup to neoprene as well. Why wasn't the leather upper extended down to the sole of the boot? It's like painting a room but not moving the furniture. Very cheese. I've been using them for all of 3 months. Next time Northwave Celsius.

The Shimano MW80 is more a shoe with a Neoprene gaiter than a boot. It's a bit of a battle to get into as there is an interior elastic instep strap.
Its very well made fits nicely with plenty of toe room, although sizing up is a good idea if you want a lot of room.
Very nice for walking because the cleat is well and truly recessed, which makes it a bit harder to clip in with, strange coming from the creators of SPD.
Still, very good shoe, but a shoe nonetheless. Excellent cold rain shoe. Not really a Winter boot IMO, although I have worn them down into the Twenties.
As with all cleated bicycle footwear, a lot of cold leeches up through the sole. Needs a better insole. I can feel the SPD bolts through the insoles, which truly sucks because there is no access to the plate without damaging the Gore-Tex liner. Used a set of Sidi bolts (shorter) and that helped.
Not as warm as the Lakes. Not as high volume as the Lakes. Overall, I still rate the Lakes as the best even with the design goofs. The Shimanos are better in the wet due to the Gore-Tex liner, but not that much better. I've never gotten much water inside the Lakes even though I haven't even treated them.
I prefer the soft toe on the Lakes. Re-enforcement on the toes just constricts them. Not so great in cold weather.
No experience with the Specialized Winter offering.

Forget it.
Mine failed again this Year, after having been re-stitched.
I went with Shoe Goo adhesive this time. Much better than stitching in this case IMO.
Lake should just switch over to gluing the heel. All the other stitching in the boot has held up well. Course all the other stitching is leather to leather.
