Classic & Vintage - Gitane Tour de France ID?

Can anyone help me ID this Gitane TDF? I can't seem to find one that looks like this in any of the vintage catalogs online....

It is not a TdF. It may say it somewhere on it, but it is not. This bike was outed on the CR list for info. I know ID'd it as probably a late 60s Gran Sport or GS Luxe. I would think the real Gitane experts will weigh in shortly.

No...it is the real deal. A low end gaspipe Gitane. Nice condition from the pics I saw.

I only paid $125 for my real TdF.

That's the basic Gitane Gran Sport - big giveaway is the painted forks - and the plastic wedge hemorrhoid saddle. We used to get those of Rogere Rivere's. Absolutely painful and the source of a lot of aftermarket saddle sales.

Nice bike for what it is, but I'd expect more like $50.00 for it. I'd love to have one - at that price, max.

I found one in the trash and gave it away. It got passed from fixie hipster to fixie hipster; one painted the frame but is now trying to find a new home for it. All the components disappeared to parts unknown.

Should I feel lucky then that I only paid $100 for my TdF? From what I've heard and the condition it's in, that's a good deal, right?

You got a great deal! Don't screw up that Stronglight P-3 headset. You won't be able to replace it for less than $100. It's easy to screw them up taking them apart if you don't under stand them.

You only need one wrench. Use it to remove the locknut. Then remove the brake hanger and any spacers. The toothed washer comes straight up. Unscrew the top cup with your hand. Don't be tempted to use pliers.

If the headset is shot, get one of these. You won't find a better price, even with shipping from France. They're one of the lightest you can buy and they last forever.
