I'm really getting into this biking lark :) My bike has regular drop bars (Anatomics I believe), but I find I hardly ever use the drops (only when I'm bombing down a hill) and I can't even pedal in the tuck position because of my beer gut. So I'm seriously considering a set of no-drop bars (cow horns), with or without aeros.

The thing I really need to know is, what about levers and shifters? I have Shimano Soras at the moment (the lever tightens the cable, a thumbswitch loosens it), would these work with aero bars or will I need bar end shifters and/or levers? (bare in mind I'd want the shifters on the ends of the horns, not the aeros).

keep the drop bars. avoid aero bars. avoid cowhorns. as your beer gut recedes and you become more flexible, you will spend more time in the drops. on the other hand, if you get tt and aero bars, there are a whole lot of group rides that won't want to have you along.
