Where your cranks connect to a spline ina hole in your frame.
Out of curiosity, whats the point of this poll, what does it prove/show?

ITs just a poll concerning the existing and new technologies for bottombracket and crankset choices.

square taper for me. call me old fashioned and cheap:D
Square taper. If it ain't broke............
I picked square taper because that's what I currently have and ride. I thought about upgrading to ISIS when it first came out but my tapers were holding up fine. That was four years ago and they're still holding up fine. That said, if I had to upgrade my cranks today I would probably consider one of the other two options but most likely would end up going with ISIS since it gives me more options. I am interested in the new BB designs out there and will keep a close eye on them but my tapers show no sign of giving up the ghost anytime soon so I'll try out the other BBs on other people's bikes or maybe try one on a new bike but my current bikes that have tapers will probably stay that way until something breaks.
I agree with Khuon, if you currently have a sqare BB and cranks I don't see a real reason to switch to ISIS if they are working. If they brake then ISIS gives you ALOT more options so then switch over.
Currently let's see.. Since this is the MTB forum, one bike with ISIS and new old hardtail with square.
Spline here. Square currently, but will be upgrading to ISIS soon to correct a chainline problem.
Right now I have Square tapered. When it breaks, I'll fix it and probably switch to splined for no reason other than that it's basically all that's available now.

Splined for me, 48 splines to be exact. That's how my Profile Racing bb axle is made. Super strong cranks, heavy as sin, indestructible! Check them out here: www.profileracing.com

No i dont mind at all A2. By the way i made this poll because i am considering to get new cranks. So i am considering to get the RF Turbines in either Square taper or ISIS. By the way i have a small fear that ISIS is going to be phased out like octalink sooner or later....Raceface made the first move by releasing the new splined system for Deus and Diablo cranks. What do you reckon?
I reckon ISIS will go 6" under pretty soon with Race FAce pulling out of it. CHris King has'nt put a BB to market yet and I bet he'll do a CK integrated cank and BB aka M960XTR.
Thats the future folks..
I think we'll all go back to one-piece cranks. :D

So the best bet for long term buying is either to wait for new '04 bb/cranks from raceface and truvativ , or to go square taper (turbine). I mean that a square taper turbine will be almost as stiff and reliable as the isis turbines. I am asking coz spending 400$ for the ISIS turbines is a BAD buy if ISIS gets phased out in a couple of years. whereas i can get for 200$ the squaretaper version which will be with a compatible bb forever.
I don't know about square tapr being around forever.
Already there ramblings of Campag phasing it out and building a similar type of 2 peice crank fortheir road bikes that Shimano has for Dura Ace.
With Race FAce following shimano on the 2 peice integrated route, I'd rather wait till feb next year and get the RF integrated cranks or an XTR.
I would be hesitant to buy square taper with a major crank manufacturer following shimano.

Damn, and i was just about to buy cranks and bb. .... guess i ll have to wait. I dont want to end up in 2-3 yrs without spare parts for either ISIS or SqT.
Oh I'm sure you still get some spares for ST but why blow the cash now when something better is already available and an alternative brand is on the way. Feb ain't that far away! And winters coming....

so you are saying not to go ISIS or ST and wait for the new splined system on Feb?

Yebbo yes.
or get XTR. It's available now and plenty stiff and lighter than the Coda Tarantula which it replaced (already very light)
or you could wait till feb for the RF stuff.

XTR is full of problems here in the UK. Also i am quite sceptical about waiting up to March to get a newly introduced technology.

Where are youUk or Athens?
I'm in Uk and no problemns with XTR cranks. The early release stuff had bearing problems due to Shimano's supplier not being able to meet demand. They farmed out soem of the bearings and the result was bearings thathas the wrong spec grease in them. Bearing Failure.
Has'nt happened to mine as I have later release crank set.

I am both in Athens or UK, it really depends on the mood and business :D. Well i dont trust XTR for serious non-light-xc riding. Also i wouldnt like to spend 300quid on a crank with a lovely finish that will dissappear in 2hrs. RF Turbines most probably for me.ISIS

Well for once I have to agree with TimB on this one. External is strong, very strong as a matter of fact. I did vote ISIS, because that's what I'm currently running, come next year though.
By the way... on MTBR I saw a link in the hot deals section for a Race Face Next LP and a titanium bottom bracket for 250 bones! If I didn't already have the crank, that would be a sweet deal. I paid 250 for mine and didn't even get a bottom bracket. Ah, well. :D

What is up with all this bickering? We all need to go for a long collective BikeForums group ride, followed by a group hug.
Can't we all just get along?

It looks like (eurobike2003) that tom ritchey releases 3 new ISIS cranksets plus a new ISIS bottom bracket. Also Raceface Evolve series of cranks is ISIS. This looks like that ISIS is far from dead. www.singletrack.com for the ritchey stuff.

Beyonce, J-Lo, and Tyra Banks have the best bottoms bar none! Their brackets are not bad, either!
