Hey everybody! Velo Girls hosts a monthly co-ed singles ride and our next one is this Friday, November 23rd. We meet @ the Menlo Park CalTrain Station @ 1:00. The route is top-secret, but we'll ride about 20-25 miles at a casual, social pace (to encourage the mission of the ride which is to meet other single cyclists). Post-ride, we gather at the British Bankers Club for beer, food, and socializing.

These rides have been incredibly successful so I would encourage you to come out and meet the velo girl or velo boy of your dreams!

Damn why didn't I hear about these rides when I was in Bay Area. Life is so unfair. :(

My wife does cycle, and she is out of town, but she's a stereotypical WASP, so she wouldn't approve.

Gentlemen,

What is there to gain from rude replies to a gracious invite?

I've actually done this ride before. I was out of town, so I couldn't attend this (although I used to date a Velogirl, and probably the reason why I have been avoiding these).

Great ride, although in the past, many riders use it as an opportunity to hammer, which kind of defeats the purpose of the ride. I wonder what the turnout was? What was the ratio of males to females?

Gentlemen,

Rude? I think we we're poking at being married and not being able to participate in the singles ride nor even a swingers ride if there ever was one.

Lorri, I hope you didn't take offense.

hey guys! I certainly didn't think anyone was being rude (and the day I need someone else to defend me I'll let you know, okay?).

turn-out varies for this ride. we've had a steady crew of 15-20 riders and some months we get 50-60 riders. our turn-over of ride leaders (they extinct themselves from leading singles rides when they hook up) has hurt us a bit.

Spingineer, I've changed the format of the rides so hammering isn't allowed. I no longer give the group a turn sheet and only give out the next turn or two so folks are forced to stay together. of course, I explain to them that this is the purpose and why I do it this way. if anyone rides ahead of me, there's no guarantee that they'll end up with the group. and I do my best to keep a moderate pace -- a pace where folks won't get dropped.

Lorri

ps -- Spingineer, who did you used to date? PM me.

oh, and for those interested, we'll most likely have our December singles ride on Christmas Eve.

Excellent. If my winter break internship does not interfere, I hope to be there.
