Introductions - Hello from Athens, Greece

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Dear friends,
I am very happy to join your bike forum. My name is Dimitris and i am 37 years old from Athens , Greece.
I quit smoking last February after 20 years of smoking. I wanted to start excercise since i put some weight ( 6 - 7 kgr --> 15 lbs ) but i am not the gym type.
My bestman and friend told me about mtb and i went with him taking his second bike to the mountain.
I really like it very much , althought i was afraid a little since i was on a bicycle after 22 years!
Anyway i bought a Canyon Nerve XC 6 (http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes/index.html?b=42) from Germany and i enjoy every second of the rides.
I hope everyone to have good health and time for cycling.
Dimitris

Do you plan to ride in Athens as well as in the hilly and mountainous countryside? I visited Athens in August 2006. There seemed to be a lot of traffic and some of the streets are rather narrow, but I imagine a person could find routes to ride there safely.
I admire the way many, many Greek people have learned English and speak it so well. I studied Koine' Greek in school and can read the New Testament fairly well in it, but that did me no good in Greece other than being able to read the alphabet. I finally bought a dictionary for Modern Greek and it helped a lot with reading signs and notices on store windows. I remember seeing one word everywhere. When I bought my dictionary, I looked it up and learned it means 'discount' as in Big Sale! Some things never change, no matter where in the world you go.
I hope you enjoy the forum. There is a lot of encouragement and helpful information for people trying to get into better physical shape. Perhaps you have seen the word "clydesdale" on the forum. In case you do not already know, it suggests that those of us who weigh 91 kg or more are big like the famous horses. Women of like stature are "Athenas," which word you know well.
