Like the title says. I have gripshift on my bike right now and I loved it until I tried rapidfire... which is beautiful:) and it seems like everyone only carries 9 spd. rapids.:(

www.bikeroom.com still has a full contingent of 8 spd parts in the xt class...in the states call airbomb as they are the same company you should be able to get them.

AIrbomb carries 8 speed Rapidfire shifters, XT and Alivio.

You could always upgrade to 9sp, if youre rear and front derailleur are 9sp compatible just replace shifters and cassette.

i forgot to add you can use 9sp for the 8sp cassette. I did that on my old old bike......7sp for the 6 sp casseette. JUst make sure yo don;t shift any higher then 8

Before you go rapidfire I'd recommend having a look at the SRAM triggers, I've only had mine on for 24hrs but initial impressions are good.

The index spacing in the shifter on either a 9 speed rapidfire or Grip Shift is smaller than 8 therefore it does not work that well. However most any LBS can get 8 speed stuff easily.

Let's not forget to mention that the leverage ratio is different for a Sram (or ESP) derailleur. IOW, you can't use a Sram rear derailleur with an XT shifter or vice versa.
Sram however DOES make a grip shifter that IS compatible with Shimano.
