I am home from the hospital and armed with more information about my condition. A ct scan of my lungs had revealed a 2 cm spn (solitary pulmonary nodule) on my left lung. This one has an irregular shape (a spiculated edge, they call it), which is usually cancer. Since a lung nodule can be cancer which has metastisized from elsewhere, I was admitted to the hospital for testing.
They found nothing anywhere else. My spn is likely stage one cancer, which has no symptoms, and is almost always found by accident, just like mine was. I am now an outpatient with a pulmonary specialist, and will probably need thorascopic surgery to remove it. More testing is necessary first.
Lung cancer is never a good diagnosis, but if that is what mine is, at least it's in an early enough stage to have a good prognosis.
Thanks for the well wishes in the other forum, trsnrtr. I didn't want to hijack that thread further by replying there.
I'm hoping the best of luck to you and there is always a chance they could be wrong. If not, there's always a remission possible with or without treatments so don't give up and keep in mind, there's always someone way worse off whatever happens to us.

I sure hope it turns out to be something else, but if it's not, you're right about catching it early. Best wishes and thoughts go out to you and those around you.

So, what made you go to the hospital initially? Breathing troubles, feeling bad? Best of luck.

I'm curious as well. Hopefully you are lucky having discovered it early. Let us know how things progress.
Here's wishing the best for you, BB. Hang in there and remember that modern medicine is capable of so much these days.

Bud, you are so right about catching it early. If it is cancer, you will have a GIANT lead on most who are diagnosed. Please keep us up to date. Certainly out thoughts and prayers are with you. :)

No, I have no symptoms. I felt great on a 130 mile brevet a couple of weeks ago. I had thyroid surgery scheduled, because of a thyroid nodule which grew too much last year. The pre-op x-ray revealed a spot on my lung, which made the doctors bring me in for the ct scan. Once they saw the ct scan, they promptly canceled my thyroid surgery, and admitted me to the hospital. The thyroid thing will have to wait until later.
The hospital stay was an adventure, itself. They just aren't used to patients as fit as me. My roommate was the typical patient. He's about my age, diabetic, 150 pounds overweight, with a horrible cough. He tried to bum a cigarette off everyone who came to see me. Strangely, I think I felt more compassion for the nurses and doctors trying to help him, than I did for him. How do you help someone like that?
When my doctor told me yesterday afternoon that I would be released in an hour, I asked him if there needed to be any restrictions on my activities. He did his best to keep a serious face, and said, "I think you need to keep your bike rides under 300 miles." I told him I could handle that.
Thanks for the support, everyone.

My, that must have been a real "weak in the knees" moment. I've read many success stories of similar findings. Your assignment is to provide me (us) with yet another one!

No problem, here's hoping that everything works out. Early detection is a good sign, if there is any positive spin to put on cancer, that is. Hang in there!

Bud-- I'm looking at the yellow bracelet I've worn for a couple years celebrating my aunt who went off to the hospital with "C" and got herself back home and is still there-- full of piss and vinegar. The same thoughts for you in this LiveStrong moment.
Wishing you the best of luck Bud. I heard the word cancer once in one of my check ups and I went gray over night. Just kidding, but I have a pretty good idea what your putting up with. Hang in there, and God bless.

When they biopsy that tumor take the results to another specialist at a major cancer center. Two (or three) heads are better than one and the patient benefits from the discussion. I'm sorry my Dad "trusted" his doctor, he passed too soon.
And Good Luck with your prognosis.
