Wild turkeys can fly. Domestic ones not so much.Domestic turkeys are so big and heavy, it's somewhat of a wonder that they can even walk. I've read that they're so big and clumsy that they are unable to have sex, and turkey farmers have to resort to artificial insemination to breed them.

And plummet like a rock before they actually get airborne. I'd be willing to bet if they roosted 60 ft up they would hit the ground first ;)

But what do they use to accomplish this task? A people baster?

Even domestic ducks tend to get too heavy to be able to fly more than a few feet, even if you aren't fattening them up to eat. Pekins (the standard white fluffy duck) often have foot and leg problems because they get so big.

Making his report sound like that broadcaster when the Hindenburg went down was inspired.

Foo is educational. I didn't know turkeys could fly. I didn't know roosters could fly until my wife and I saw where all the roosters on Key West go up in the trees at night. We wondered for years where they disappeared to at dusk until we finally looked up.

Well, I'm still waiting for someone to explain how goats get on top of buildings when there's not ladder, tree or any other visible means for them to get up there.

The trolls put them up there out of revenge for that whole "bridge" incident.

A turkey flew for earlier. Today was the company Thanksgiving lunch. My BBQ, "beer butt" style turkey flew off the pan. Only thing left is juice.

Just saw some wild turkey flying yesterday. They also run pretty fast.
While biking in the hills over the weekend, another rider was about to pass me on the opposite side of the road, when a family of quail suddenly darted across the road in a perfect line between us and disappeared in the weeds. We looked at one another and laughed as we passed.

God bless both farmers and turkeys. I'm truly thankful for both. My folks bought two baby turkeys in springtime one year with the intention of having them for the coming Thanksgiving. They grew up fast and lived outside by the horse barn. As long as there was food, they didn't wander. Nearing T-Day, my stepdad Joe had a change of heart and couldn't kill em, even though he killed plenty of chickens as boy. So they stayed around as big annoying pets until one went missing one day. All that was left was a trail of feathers. No large predators in the area that we knew of in rural PA, so it remained a mystery just what happened. Then a short while later Joe heard a commotion near the barn and walked down to see the neighbor's German Shepard chasing the remaining turkey around the yard, snapping at it's tail feathers. So that's what happened to the first one. Just a little barnyard fun between species. No telling if the dog killed and ate the first bird. More than likely he chased him into the woods and the bird just wandered off unable to find it's way back. Probably lived a long life eating worms and flies. Alone. Lost in the woods. Sniff... The remaining bird did end up on the dinner table. Joe got tired of waking up and seeing bird poop on the hood of the truck. It wasn't even Thanksgiving. He just had enough of that crap and that was it.
